|Five parks in the Wakefield district have once again been recognised for their outstanding quality by retaining the prestigious Green Flag Award. The parks, which include Anglers Country Park, Haw Park Wood, Pontefract Park, Pugneys Country Park, and Vale Head Park, have been celebrated for their excellent management and the vibrant green spaces they offer to the community.
Green Flag Award Significance
The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised standard that highlights well-managed parks and green spaces. Established 30 years ago, the award is given to parks that meet strict criteria, ensuring they are safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone. This year marks a significant milestone for the award, celebrating three decades of promoting high-quality parks both in the UK and abroad.
Continuing Excellence
This year, Anglers Country Park and Haw Park Wood have achieved their 18th and 19th Green Flag Awards respectively. Pugneys Country Park has been awarded for the sixth time, while Pontefract Park has secured the award for the fourth time. Vale Head Park, a newer contender, has successfully retained the award for the second consecutive year. This consistent recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of the staff, volunteers, and community groups who look after these spaces.

Julian Carter, the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, expressed pride in the achievements of these parks:
