Wakefield is gearing up for an exciting event that aims to bring everyone together through the joy of sport. The Inclusive Sports Festival, part of the Activ8 Wakefield initiative, is set to take place on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Thornes Park Stadium. This free event is all about promoting and celebrating inclusive opportunities in sport and physical activity across the district, making it accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

What to Expect at the Festival

The festival will run from 11am to 2pm, offering a variety of 'come and try' activities that everyone can participate in. These activities are designed to be fun and engaging, encouraging people to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. Attendees can also enjoy live demonstrations showcasing different sports and physical activities.

Local sports providers will be present to meet visitors and share how they are committed to making their sessions open and accessible. This is particularly important for individuals with physical disabilities, learning differences, or additional needs, as the festival aims to highlight that sport is for everyone.

Community and Collaboration

The Inclusive Sports Festival is made possible through a partnership between several key organisations, including Disability Sport Yorkshire, Yorkshire Sport Foundation, and Wakefield Council. These groups are dedicated to breaking down barriers to participation in sports and physical activities, encouraging community involvement, and showcasing the many benefits of leading an active lifestyle.

Lukasz Borcz, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport, expressed his enthusiasm for the festival:

“We all deserve the opportunity to be active, feel included, and be part of something. This festival is about bringing people together and showing that sport and physical activity really can be for everyone.”
