|Exciting news has emerged for the York Knights, a prominent rugby league club, as they prepare for a new chapter in their history. A locally based ownership group has officially agreed to acquire the majority shares of the club, marking a significant transition for the team. This change is currently moving through the necessary official channels and is pending formal approval from the Rugby Football League (RFL).
New Ownership Group
The new ownership group is led by David Dickson and his family, who are passionate about the future of the club. Richard Larking will also continue to play a role on the board as a Director. The York Knights have expressed their gratitude to Clint Goodchild, who has served as the custodian of the club. His leadership has been instrumental in the club's recent successes.
Recent Achievements
Under Goodchild’s guidance, the York Knights have experienced remarkable progress. The club successfully rebranded and achieved unprecedented success on the field. Notably, the York Valkyrie, the women’s team, secured back-to-back titles in the Betfred Women's Super League. Additionally, the York Knights made history by winning the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup at Wembley and gaining promotion to the Betfred Super League in 2026 for the first time ever. These accomplishments have filled the city of York with immense pride and excitement.
Future Plans
The incoming ownership group is committed to building on the strong foundations laid down by the previous management. They aim to enhance the club’s future and unlock the true potential of the York Knights. Over the next few weeks, the club plans to unveil its strategic vision as the 2026 season comes to a close and preparations begin for 2027.
Leadership Transition
As part of this transition, the current general manager, Neil Gulliver, will take on the role of Chief Executive.
Clint Goodchild will step down as Chairman and CEO but leaves behind a legacy of ambition and achievement. He expressed deep appreciation for the community, stating:
