|The York Knights have made an exciting addition to their squad by signing hooker Thomas Doyle, a move supported by Squad Builder. The 27-year-old player has joined the Knights for the rest of the current season and will continue with the team into 2027. This signing comes at an important time as the Knights aim to strengthen their roster for the challenges ahead.
Doyle’s Journey to York Knights
Before joining the Knights, Doyle spent three seasons with Wakefield Trinity, where he played a key role in the team’s promotion to the Super League in 2024. However, his game time has been limited this season at the DIY Kitchens Stadium, leading to a loan spell at Bradford Bulls, where he first developed his skills as a youth player.
His journey included a season with the Keighley Cougars in 2023 before making the move to Wakefield. Recently, Doyle was granted an early release from his contract with Wakefield, which opened the door for him to join the Knights.
Excitement for New Opportunities
Doyle expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Knights:
"I’m buzzing to be joining York for the final stretch of the Super League season. My main focus now is to hit the ground running, give absolutely everything to the club, and finish the year as strongly as possible."
His eagerness to contribute to the team reflects his commitment to making a positive impact as they move forward.
Head Coach’s Confidence
The head coach of York Knights, Mark Applegarth, shared his excitement about Doyle's signing:
"I'm really glad Doyley has signed and I'm looking forward to working with him. I signed him for Wakefield and never actually got the chance to work with him. He’s a tough, no-nonsense player that’s hungry to improve, and I can’t wait to start working with him."
This shows that the coaching staff has high hopes for Doyle and believes he will fit well into the team.
Upcoming Matches
Doyle is set to make his debut for the Knights in their upcoming match against the Leeds Rhinos on Sunday, 23rd August, at the LNER Community Stadium. This game will be a significant moment for Doyle as he looks to make an immediate impact in his new team.
