|The York Knights have made an exciting addition to their squad by signing Max Jowitt, a talented full back from Wakefield Trinity. The announcement was made on Friday, 4th September, and the new contract will keep Jowitt at the Knights for two years starting in 2027. This move is made possible through the support of the Squad Builder initiative, which aims to enhance the team’s capabilities.
Max Jowitt's Career Highlights
At just 29 years old, Jowitt has had a remarkable journey in rugby league. He spent 12 years at Wakefield Trinity, where he made over 180 appearances since 2014. During his time there, he set a record for the most points scored in a single season, achieving an impressive total of 500 points. Reuniting with Coach Mark Applegarth
One of the notable aspects of Jowitt's signing is his reunion with head coach Mark Applegarth. The two have a history together, as Applegarth was the Head of Youth at Wakefield during the early stages of Jowitt's career. They also worked together when Applegarth coached Wakefield in the Super League in 2023. Applegarth expressed his excitement about bringing Jowitt to the Knights, saying:
“I’m really glad we've got Max joining us. He’s a proven Super League player with nearly 200 games under his belt and he’ll add a different dimension to us in attack. He’s one of the best passers of the ball in the league in that second phase of attack. He’s a lovely person as well. I’m really looking forward to working with him again. He’s a player I know well and I think he’ll help push us as a team onto that next level.”
Jowitt's Perspective
Max Jowitt also shared his enthusiasm about joining the York Knights. He expressed his excitement for a fresh start, particularly at a club that is heading in a promising direction. His words reflect his eagerness to contribute to the team's success:
“I’m buzzing for the opportunity to have a fresh start at a club like York, especially with the direction that the club is heading in.”
What This Means for York Knights
Jowitt's arrival is significant for the York Knights as they look to strengthen their squad and compete at a higher level. With his extensive experience and goal-scoring ability, he is expected to play a vital role in the team's attacking strategy. The Knights have been aiming to build a competitive side, and Jowitt's skills will certainly add depth and talent to their roster.
The Knights' supporters will be keen to see how Jowitt integrates with the team and contributes to their ambitions in the upcoming seasons. His history with Applegarth and proven track record in the Super League suggest that he could be a key player for York as they strive for success.
