From the moment we arrived at Mason’s Campsite in Appletreewick, we knew this was going to be special. The setting is absolutely stunning, surrounded by rolling Yorkshire countryside and with a warm, friendly atmosphere throughout the site. We had a lovely pitch by the lake with our campervan, complete with a crackling fire pit – the perfect backdrop for an evening of local cheese and wine under the stars. It really felt like one of the best places we’ve stayed in a very long time. The staff deserve a special mention. They were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely went above and beyond. On the morning of our departure, our awning came loose from the camper roof – not exactly the send-off we were hoping for! But the team at Mason’s were incredible. They brought out ladders, tools, and even their own skills and expertise to help us fix the issue. They truly didn’t need to, but their kindness and willingness to help turned what could have been a stressful situation into just another reason we’ll never forget our stay. We honestly can’t thank the staff enough. Mason’s is a gem of a campsite and we will most definitely be back very soon!
Greedy. Everything about the site is lovely, and you can’t beat the Yorkshire Dales. But the owners greed and staff’s delight in charging extortion rates is sad to see. Nearly £50 a night go camping is madness. And everything - I mean everything - is extra. We couldn’t bring our motor home (with awning, heaters, kitchen etc in it) - so brought a 3 person tent instead. That’ll be £20 extra for your gazebo (going where the awning would have been). £20 extra for the car (that replaced the motorhome). £20 for your own firepit ‘for health and safety reasons’. Come on - it’s become daylight robbery! Edit: Thanks for your comments. But this was based on an actual stay in June 2025, where the glee of the reception team in charging extra for the car that replaced the motorhome; extra for the gazebo that replaced the awning: and extra for the firepit to replace the kitchen were all charges levied for swooping from a 8m motorhome to a 3person tent.
I’ve been coming to this campsite for years, but sadly it’s become more and more expensive over time. At £50 a night, even off-peak, it’s now just absurdly overpriced for what you get. The facilities are basic, and there haven’t been any real improvements to justify such steep increases. There’s an amazing pub up the road that we love to visit — but I can’t help feeling the campsite has used that as an excuse to ramp up prices. I wouldn’t mind an increase during peak times, but charging this much all year round is unreasonable. Camping in the UK used to be such an affordable activity for everyone to enjoy the countryside, but this place is yet another example of a site that’s priced out loyal customers with overcharging. Oh, and wait until you find out you have to pay extra just to secure your pitch — something you’ve literally already paid for! A real shame — this used to be a great, affordable spot, but it’s just not good value anymore.
What a treat today was, stopped off at the campsite for a coffee and was stunned by how delightful the staff were. Sophie was nothing short of wonderful, someone who went above and beyond to ensure that I had the best experience possible when visiting. They were so kind, funny and talkative. I would consider revisiting just for their exemplary service, would consider poaching them for my own staff !! 🤣🤣
A large campsite with good pitches, with good facilities, shop and bar. This site is very popular and very busy in high season. My only negativity about the site is that it is close to a busy road with constant heavy traffic 😔, and if you want a hot shower you need to get up early, 7am ISH. Some attention is needed in the ablusions, such as repositioning some of the shower baskets, in one shower big people like myself couldn't get buy and had to duck down to get into the shower itself, some of the timing buttons also need adjusting or replacing aswell. So! Needless to say, some alterations and maintenance needed in the ablusions. Other than that, not a bad camping site, well situated for hiking and site seeing.
