Thyme Cafe is the creation of two chefs, Adrian Cooling & Richard Smith, and Smithy’s wife Victoria. They met at High Peak Catering College in the mid-80’s and were reunited in the mid-90’s at the Smiths’ first venture – ‘Smiths of Sheffield’ in Crosspool, where Adrian helped them create one of the finest restaurants in the area, winning a whole host of awards & accolades and achieving a level of business that is rarely seen these days – packed out every night for five years.
However it was 2003 when Smithy and Ady decided they wanted to create a no-nonsense eaterie that was casual, fun, relaxed and a little rough around the edges. That delivered food that was robust, hearty, big on flavours and direct on taste. Thyme Cafe was born.
The Cafe was all about giving the customer value, choice and quality. It was important to concentrate on doing the basics flawlessly – serving people enjoyable, tasty food (plenty of it too) in a friendly, efficient manner that would keep them coming back for more. It all sounded simple enough, give the punters what they want and enjoy ourselves while doing it.
So here we are, nearly a decade on, with the cafe still evolving but still delivering a product that is enjoyed by thousands of customers who love and respect what we do.
Our in-house supply team makes us totally unique by going directly to the markets to source the very best ingredients, day in, day out. To reflect this, the blackboard menu changes daily making the most of top quality seasonal produce.
Food is served by our excellent front of house team who offer a professional, efficient service with a touch of charm and humour. We hope you enjoy the fun, casual, dining experience this creates amongst the bustling cafe atmosphere.
We don’t take reservations and instead follow a ‘first come, first served’ policy.
At busy times, if we don’t have a table for you straight away, you can put your name
on the waiting list and pop out for a drink while you wait for the next available table.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
