Our B&B host recommended dinner here so we were sure to book a spot as it was the weekend. We were seated in the dining room that had quite a number of tables in it. all of them filled. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the mushroom Bordelaise, but after seeing my husband's fish and chips, I certainly regretted that decision. My dinner came with plenty of vegetables, which I do enjoy, but the flavor of the meal was rather bland. The restaurant was very busy so we didn't spent much time lingering. Ate and left shortly.

Had one of the best Sunday lunches (if not the best!) I've had out! We both had cheesy garlic mushrooms to start, I had a mixed Sunday roast and the wife had brie, cranberry and mushroom wellington as a Sunday lunch.Big portions and friendly staff in a proper old fashioned pub!

After a hike in the Yorkshire Dales my partner and I were starving and stumbled upon this quaint little pub in Askrigg. Safe to say we were in for the best surprise as neither of us expected much, typical pub food nothing special but I can truly say it was the best meal I’ve had at a pub in ages! I had the steak & ale pie and my partner had the sausages & mash and I could not fault it! Everything came out hot, portions were generous & most importantly it tasted amazing. The pastry on my pie was a quality only my Nana has achieved for me! In short, can’t fault the place! Would love to go again & would highly recommend to anyone visiting Askrigg or Leyburn!

I am still in a bit of a haze from my experience of spending my 55th birthday in Askrigg, all this due to the love of the BEST BBC show ever created, All Creatures Great and Small, in 1978. We arrived in Askrigg Friday night quite late. The pub was open, but the restaurant was closed. I asked them if they could feed three poor souls, and they said the restaurant was closed so we sat down for a few drinks, and before we knew it, they brought out two big bowls of french fries, some dip, and a basket of fresh bread and local butter. They said that's all they could do, but I was touched by their kindness. What great people! Sunday, I made reservations for lunch. We had the roast beef with all the trimmings (Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes, etc). Again, the staff could not be nicer. The sticky toffee pudding was out of this world. I just want to say thank you for your hospitality on my 55th birthday and for being part of a dream long in the making- visiting the Yorkshire Dales! So, if you are looking for good beer, good food, and good people, you found your pub! Another nice detail is that it is right across the Skeldale House, one of the main reasons why I was in Askrigg!

We ate in both the restaurant and the bar, or more specifically, in the old tack room next to the bar. The food was excellent as was the service. The tall, local woman in the white top who served us in the bar should get special mention, as she took time to explain about the history of the hotel when we asked. I thought the atmosphere in both locations was really good but, personally, we loved eating in the bar and chatting to both customers and servers. This is a fascinating old building and worth booking a table, if you are staying locally. Come early though, as parking in the village can get pretty tight, especially at weekends. A proper 5-star visit on two occasions. Excellent and highly recommended. Did I say the food was nice too? There's a good menu!
