The Royal Hotel & Restaurant

An historic, beautifully and tastefully decorated hotel in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale. Our bedroom overlooking the square was spotlessly clean, in excellent condition, well decorated and well furnished. The hotel bar is large, comfortable and well stocked. Unfortunately, we did not dine in the hotel other than to have breakfast, which was delicious and plentiful. The staff are very competent and extremely helpful which became very apparent when our car broke down and had to be recovered on the day we checked out of the hotel. We were allowed to store our baggage while we waited for a courtesy car to be delivered which was not without its issues. The hotel management even kindly offered us a room for that night and reduced rates if it became necessary. One item to note, the hotel itself does not have any parking available. There is a pay car park within easy walking distance (1 minute).

Boxing day lunchtime visit. Fawlty towers has nothing on this place!!!!! Table service for drinks!!!! Hope you are not thirsty. 5 stars to chef who can produce food far quicker than you can get a drink!!!and if not repeatedly asked would have finished eating even before getting. I have never seen so many staff (5) running around and achieving nothing and people still waiting.

Been once for a drink, wasn’t greeted had our order taken after quite some time. The guy behind the bar completely forgot to make our drinks, despite us being sat next to the bar and him looking at us countless times! Second time we went in for afternoon tea and the same guy bluntly said not done without pre booking, refused to even let us wait for a table just said the entire place was full. Will not be back. Service is rubbish.

Lovely overnight stay, great breakfast and for the price of the town and country break, great value however the room was small and tired. Toilet had a dodgy flush and the seat wasn’t fixed properly, the bath plug had no chain so impossible to remove and the lovely bathroom paper was peppered with previous occupants toothpaste - I wiped a load off with a towel before departure. Food in the restaurant was average, I had 5 pieces of gnocchi in my chicken/gnocchi dish so would suggest dining elsewhere.

We had 3 different meals with varying success. Fish pie was highly rated 8/10. Chicken burger was a little on the small side for the price 7/10 and the ribs with chips were not as soft and would be expected 6/10.
