I stumbled upon the market unexpectedly while looking for a supermarket. We were visiting from New zealand and just happened to arrive on market day. What a revelation, such a lovely small town, to say I was impressed is an understatement. Returning later this year and absolutely intend another visit. Friendly people, delightful Town.

A great little artisan market in the lovely village of kirkby Lonsdale, the Market is held in the square every Thursday. Plus there's lots of lovely shops to wander around. The old church yard that leads to the 99 steps and Ruskin's view unfortunately it is closed at the moment. But there is a viewing tower you can go up to have a look at the view. There's also a small interactive museum in the information shop called the vault well worth a look.

Enjoyed browsing round this lively little market while on a day trip. Good variety of stalls including fruit and veg, baked goods, plants, clothing, bags, pictures, books and some really nice needlecrafts. The traders were friendly but not at all pushy and one of them was very helpful when I asked the way to the church. There's a hog roast, a barista and a very good Italian food stand where I had a delicious and filling lunch prepared while I waited. The flatbread was rolled into a wrap filled with courgettes, aubergines and other hot vegetables, some strong cheese and balsamic dressing. Very friendly and cheery stallholder, quick service and the food cost me just £4. The historic covered market cross with its little stone seats was a convenient place to eat it. The market as a whole is well worth a visit and there are some quaint narrow streets and nice little shops to discover around the market square.
