Black Bull Retreat, Barmston

Fabulous couple of days wirh family at Black Bull Retreat. So peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed some lovely long beach walks nearby as well as visiting nearby beauty spots. Hot tub was amazing to come back to and accommodation nice and toasty. Well equipped with thoughtful little touches like dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and t-towel. I usually bring this stuff myself. Wine and chocs appreciated also. We had a bit of a mix up on arrival as the Lodge we had been allocated on email was occupied. Soon sorted out but would have been nice to have been informed of changes so we did not have to interrupt the other family who were enjoying the hot tub.

We recently enjoyed a hot tub break as a couple, and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The setting was peaceful and private — ideal for switching off and spending real quality time together. The accommodation was spotless, cozy, and beautifully decorated, with thoughtful little touches that made it feel extra special. The highlight was definitely the hot tub! So relaxing under the stars, surrounded by quiet countryside — it felt like our own little slice of paradise. We loved being able to unwind after a day of exploring and just soak with a glass of wine in hand. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, but also gave us plenty of privacy, which we really appreciated. Everything we needed was provided, from fluffy towels to robes and even a few local goodies. We came home feeling completely refreshed and reconnected. Highly recommend this place for couples looking for a romantic escape or a special weekend away. We’ll definitely be returning! 💕

Quite disappointed with Black Bull no2 after booking and paying extra for cake/balloons etc and to bring our dog for my partners surprise birthday treat. Needs a few fixes that wouldn't cost much to make it value for money. On arrival we found food behind the seating area at the dining table, holes in door/wall, rusty radiators, well used/scratched plates which werent ideal to eat from, stained chairs and an overflowing skip directly outside. I contacted the maintenance team, via leaving a voice message (as this was the only option available) regarding the boiler being on constantly due to hot water pouring from the hot tub "fill up" hose outside. This was quite concerning. A fix that would probably take a few minutes to sort yet no one contacted me. I also wondered whether the gas would run out half way through making our evening meal because of this, that was once we'd had to refer to Google to actually get the oven working! There were instructions but unless you "know" these aren't enough so didn't bother trying to use the oven grill to make the birthday boy any cheese on toast! The TV also kept turning itself off randomly. Not keen on walking around the back of the cabin to use the hot tub at our age as decking it was quite slippy. In a lovely position within a beautiful village with the beach only a 10/15 minute walk away but sadly this wasn't what we hoped for. Hopefully other cabins towards the field are much better.

We hired 2 cabins for a family weekend,.we could not be accommodated next to each other which was disappointing. The cooker was not powerful enough to cook pizzas whch we too for Friday night, which was difficult with 7 children to feed after travel. And the hot tubs were not cleaned all weekend. I've never stayed anywhere where this has happened before

This is the 4th time we've been back! We love it here! Lodges are perfect, everything that you could need and especially very clean. Pub/restaurant was lovely, staff very nice and friendly, menu seemed basic to last time we visited, but that being said, was still nice food if you didn't want to cook in your lodge. We will be back again for sure. Thank you Black Bull xx
