Brilliant college. I had a terrible experience at Sheffield college so came to Barnsley. I am so glad I did! The atmosphere is much nicer, the tutor doesn't have favourites and asks for equal contributions from everyone in class. It's fair the way it should be. The tutor responds in a timely manner to any questions outside of class, my peers are great to be around and work with. I feel like I've found my place here and would recommend to anyone! I'm hoping that they add a level 5 course in 2 years time when my current course ends as I would 100% stay on here!
The Art Foundation course is very poorly run. Teachers clearly had no respect for the students, since we were often spoken to like children. We were left in a room alone all day to get on with ‘independent work’ while our teacher was nowhere to be seen. 1:1s every week consisted of criticism, but not constructive, as I’m not alone in saying I learned absolutely nothing in the year I spent at that college. Above all, quite a large portion of my work was lost by the teachers who said they’d ’keep it safe’. I attended 2023-2024 and am sad to say I regret my year spent at that place.
They call themselves, one of the best colleges in the UK. But for my 3 years there from 2022/25. My course was poorly managed very understaffed and on top of all we always had Issues with the colleges computers or Hardwares. A-lot of favoritism going on too especially in the SCI tech building. The course i did was programming and half of the time you would just have a group of students sat in the corner of the classroom disrupting the lesson and nothing was done about it! They tried to scam me by making me pay £80 just to keep resitting core papers just because my phone was off and in my pocket during an exam and if not passed another £80. 3 Years of my life wasted. Terrible staff, i was treated like a pig compared to other students.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COLLEGE ESPECIALLY SOMEONE OF FOREIGN BACKGROUNDS
Great college, definitely recommend it. The staff are so friendly and will help you. I just finished my Creative Media course with them. Although some parts were a little bit of a headache at the start, my tutors supported me and helped me learn new things as well as put me with a group of people who got along well with each other, at the end of the year I managed to get some decent grades. The food served at the cafeterias is nice too and a good price, not overcharging like some colleges may have. And the walk to the bus & train station is very short, only 7-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk.
I did a two year B tech course at Barnsley College Stem Centre. I was lied to about my course by the course leader, so that I join the college. Was literally assaulted twice and both times the person assaulting me got away with it. My class and I spent the second half of our foundation year without a teacher. I'm pretty sure almost every rule/regulation, put in place for staff and marking work, was broken by both the teachers and the people in charge of the teachers. One teacher was allowed to mark based on how much he liked the student. Shout out to Paul and Ben, the only two people who actually taught us properly. Thankyou. They got a literal apprentice to teach us two of our modules. They nearly removed me from the course because ONE student made stuff up to get me in trouble. The teachers refused to listen to me. The college have so far refused to give me my certificate despite passing the course. Amongst many other things I could have listed, these are just a few examples. I do not know about the other departments at Barnsley college, but stay well away from courses Stem Centre, I highly recommend going somewhere else.
