Highly recommend Wendy Bailey from the Barnsley Branch, who dealt with a very difficult situation concerning an ex partner who refused to engage in selling the matrimonial home, We had no other choice but to take this matter to the family courts. Wendy was fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable on family law and explained everything to us, kept us upto date with all developments, responded quickly to emails / telephone calls. Reassured us when we felt very frustrated. The court paperwork was always filed on time and in depth. Which couldn't be said for my ex partner's legal team. My experience with Wendy was nothing but positive. Would I use Howells again? Absolutely!! Date of experience: Court hearing 02/05/2025.
Rosamund and Jane handled the conveyancing for a property I purchased recently. I found their service very good and professional. They were always helpful and patiently guided me through the process which I was grateful for as a complete newbie to home buying. I would recommend Howells.
Howells overall is very disorganised, but the Barsley office was especially poor. We are first time buyers, no chain, and the vendors had already vacated the property. Should of been a straight forward conveyancing process but it was far from it! Very hard to get hold of our solicitor, we were always promised a call back but never got one. The people on reception transfer you through to the solicitors voicemail, so you have to call up again to try and get someone to help you. Our solicitor was absent for 2 weeks, we were not informed. She had left a lot of work untouched for weeks. The vendors solicitors, the estate agents, nor I could get a straightforward response. Multiple people looking at the case at once following my complaint. This caused further issues as none of them communicated with each other, causing the information getting requested several times. It just went round in circles! Overall, very stressful. I don't want anyone else to have to go through that.
Very helpful in the recent sale of a property. We were kept well informed at each stage and process went through in good speed given covid circumstances throughout. Very pleased with the service provided by Howells.
I would not even give 1 star. First appointment seemed good so I went with them for my divorce and what a sham it as been from the start. My solicitor knew we only had a few months time frame as my ex husband had applied for a mortgage on his own to release me from it. I had to constantly be on her case to send me the paperwork to sign so the divorce could be filled with the courts. I then signed the forms hand delivered them to Howells on the same day I received them. I then contacted them again a month or so later to see if they had heard anything back to then find out the forms had not been submitted as my solicitor had been on leave and was out of the country for several weeks and on her return she was tied up in court for a week or so. At this point I was not happy and raised my concerns with them. This sort of thing continued where I have had to continuously chase them and push them into doing what I have paid them to do (nearly £2000 so far!!) My ex husbands mortgage offer ran out because of the incompetence of this company so he as had to 're apply at a extra cost to do so!!! My decree absolute could have been applied for from Friday just gone so jist to make sure i have phoned them today to make sure they have applied to then find out my solicitor was on.leave again on Fri and in court today so her pa checked the file to make sure it was in there so they knew to apply for it but surprise supirse it wasn't in there so if I had not phoned again to make sure that what I have paid them for had been done it would not have been applied for to finalise my divorce. What a sham this company is!!!
