Very disappointing. The bridge is fine. Useful and attractive. A big thing was made naming it after the late, great Tommy Taylor who tragically died in the 1958 Munich Air crash. The Duke of Edinburgh, ex-United and Barnsley players and members of Tommy's family were all there for the unveiling of the memorial plaque. Unfortunately though it isn't next to the steps or the lift. It's been hidden away round the corner from the steps and put high up on a wall, so nobody using the bridge would ever pass it and if you seek it out its too high to be able to read it! Pretty pointless really. Also, local lad Mark Jones, who also died in the crash and played for Barnsley schools, only gets a passing mention on the plaque. He should have had the same recognition as Tommy. The council came up with a good idea but then have made a mess of it all.
Barnsley pedestrian bridge named after local football star, Tommy Taylor, who died aged 26 in the Munich air disaster of 1958, along with 23 others. The Duke of Edinburgh formally dedicated the bridge in October 2024. Bridge has lifts at either end.
Honestly, this bridge has been a great improvement to the town center. It's a lovely gateway to the town over the rail lines and really brightens the landscape compared to before.
Bridge is bang on.
