A lovely, little FREE museum with plenty of history to tell inside. The museum is home to a variety of artefacts, information boards and props. We travelled over an hour to visit and didn't leave disappointed. Cafe, refreshments and toilets on site too.

Great museum located in the upper part of Wilton Park in Batley. It's got good exhibitions on Egypt, Africa, Asia and local interests. Nice place to bring children and then spend time in the park. There's a lovely gift shop and there's plenty of free parking. There's a nice down hill walk through woods to the lower park of part of Wilton Park, when you've finished your visit to the museum.

The Museum (FREE Entry !) also allows admission to the nearby Butterfly House (open April to Halloween). Although it is a small museum, it can nonetheless provide a good & interesting half day out - with the surrounding park & Butterfly House. Local History & Ancient Egypt are the principal themes, but there is also a well stocked shop with plenty of tempting souvenirs (especially for kids) & hot beverages. The staff are nice & friendly (& in the Butterfly House, quite knowledgeable as well !) Although I visited in mid August, there weren't a lot of Butterflies in the Butterfly House, but there was very cheap Tea & Coffee there (plus low cost souvernirs) - together with the chance to handle some bugs ! Worth a visit, definitely. Oh, and the toilets in the Museum are worth a visit too - for the art on display inside !

It's a long time since we have visited and while it has changed it does seem to been more appropriate to young families who may not normally do museums. A few interactive items not working and the globe in the Africa section needs replacing as the UK has been fully rubbed off. But overall a nice little museum though desperately lacking a cafe.
