It is great to have the Old Black Swan open again, it is our favourite pub in Bedale. Been a few times since Chris and Gaye took over the running of it and each time we have had a meal, it has been superb. The most recent visit was with friends, two of us had the Pheasant pie with mash and the other party had Cumberland sausage. All served with delicious fluffy mash, lovely selection of green vegetables and a big gravy boat, filled with one of the best gravies I have had when dining out. All served with a smile by Gaye, a lovely lady who clearly loves interaction with her customers. Chris is also lovely, friendly, helpful and professional. Really nice atmosphere too which took us back to old times. Thank you Chris and Gaye, look forward to our next lunch and evening meal. Can highly recommend this fabulous proper pub 😊👍
Always a pleasure coming in to the Black swan met Chris and Gaye 2 weeks ago now and think ive been in 5 times already always friendly .....always service with a smile and the lunch time fish and chips is amazing amazing value for money
What a lovely welcome we had from Chris and Gaye who we understand have recently taken over this marvellous old pub. They’ve got a terrific chef and the food- led offering should ensure the success of the business - it deserves local support as well as passing A1 travellers like us. Everything was cooked from fresh, portions were huge, we left empty plates. We tasted a couple of the beers which were in excellent condition - would have loved to have been able to lose an afternoon - and we will definitely return.
Ignore the old reviews!! Lovely Sunday lunch served by the very friendly staff Gaye and Chris. Top marks to chef Wally Jake, beautifully cooked and presented. Great value too. Would certainly recommend and say if you in Bedale call in whether for a pint or to eat, we were certainly not disappointed!! Dog friendly and fussed over.
Lovely staff! Accommodated gluten free diet and made us feel very welcome. Kitchen staff were limited but the quality of food and service was still brilliant. Would recommend for a cosy, friendly pub lunch.
