Bun Thai Restaurant

Was looking for somewhere a little different to have lunch on a recent day out to the Christmas market, and came upon this restaurant with its distinctive green and white facade, next to Beverley's old town gate. The young man who greeted me was very welcoming and friendly, and found me a nice table close to the bar. The restaurant has an upstairs dining area, reached by way of a quirky spiral staircase. Beautiful Thai pictures and decorations, and woven place mats on the tables. There's an accessible downstairs toilet. The Thai iced tea was very refreshing. I chose from the lunch menu, which offered a small but tempting selection of traditional Thai starters, curries and stir fries. Plenty of gluten-free options. You get a starter and a main for £15.95, both brought to your table at the same time. I had the tod man pla (Thai fish cakes served with a pot of sweet chilli sauce topped with crushed peanuts), followed by a sweet and sour stir fry with chicken, mixed vegetables and pineapple, served with jasmine rice. Authentic Thai food, beautifully presented, flavoursome but not too spicy, ample portions. Despite the restaurant being busy, service was reasonably quick, and the atmosphere was calm, relaxed and friendly. A very satisfying lunch experience, and good value for money.

Excellent tasty food. We had the lunch time special which was great value for money £15.95 for 2 courses. Will definitely return.

Really enjoyed the meal more than I could eat. Very friendly service. We will definitely be coming back to try of the menu. I ordered Pad Kee Mao with extra chili. They have made it really taste like I had in Thailand. If you love real spicy Thai food. We recommend you to try from the menu.

Huge fan of the owners & staff but this place is so inconsistent. First issue is the in-dining to take-away portion, when you're in the restaurant you get a nice healthy portion, every time you order online that is slashed into half, if not 33% - I just had to dig around in some sauce to find chicken when ordering online, however the plate is full when in-house. The second issue is the consistency of the food, sometimes you will order a stir fried dish and it comes as advertised, then the next week you have a full on soup curry. It seems like a new chef each day, they are both tasty but you are not sure what is arriving each time. Again, I love the place, people & food, but they need to sort out the portions on dine-in vs take-out to make that consistent, then again with the food, are we having 1 chef or the other? If different, advertise which chef on each day, thanks for the good service each time we visit,
