Toft Gate Lime Kiln

Nice little out of the way place small car park and quiet popular spot. Walked up to quarry with stunning views

Well preserved piece of industrial history in a great location, with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside and towns, including landmarks like RAF Menwith Hill. The lime kiln itself has been partially restored, and significant foundations remain. Information boards are provided, giving more detail about the site's industrial past. There's a decent size parking area with an honesty box (cash only) for donations towards upkeep. While visiting, it's worth taking the short uphill walk to The Coldstones Cut, a huge art installation overlooking an active quarry.

A little piece of history in the Yorkshire Dales! Toft Gate Lime Kiln is fantastic for a free historic adventure in the countryside! Without going into detail, as the information boards around provide plenty, this is a historic Lime Kiln. It's amazing how well preserved this area is and how it hides amongst the landscape. It's ideal to stop off and spend a few hours at, with good views, good walks and a good area to picnic! Parking is free but donations are accepted in an honesty box. Equally, you can visit Coldstones Cut which is just up the mountain!

Fantastic little walk which I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did but really enjoy experiencing. Had this walk planned for a while now and finally got around to do it and went to do The Coldstone Cut follow by the Toft Gate Lime Kiln which are so cool to look for, there a kinda path that leads around it due to so many people walking through that helps get you from the start to finish and would recommend being little carful going in as there a bit of a steep slope leading down the a doorway that you can’t get in but still look through. Would definitely recommend if you’re wanting a short walk that isn’t challenging but still enjoyable. The Result of the walk ended in one very tired puppy😂
