What a fantastic, free (donations accepted) little gem! We travelled from Barnsley to Oakwell Hall and really enjoyed our walk around the house, diving into its past with its well informed boards and artifacts. The gardens were great and it was a real step back in time.
Lovely place to visit, the house is stunning and the staff are so helpful and informative, the gardens are so well kept and the surrounding park and forest is perfect for the dog
Lovely walk around the grounds and park, free parking at both car parks, and nice food in the cafe. Plenty of areas for a picnic.
Oakwell Hall & Country Park is a real gem, offering a fantastic blend of history, nature, and family fun. The Elizabethan manor house itself is stunning. Stepping inside feels like traveling back in time, with its beautifully preserved rooms, intriguing artifacts, and a palpable sense of history. The guided tours are well-informed and bring the past to life, sharing fascinating stories about the families who lived there. Beyond the hall, the country park is a sprawling delight. There are acres of green space perfect for picnics, leisurely walks, and letting the kids run wild. The different trails cater to various fitness levels, and the varied landscapes, from woodland areas to open fields, provide a refreshing change of scenery. I especially enjoyed the walled garden, a tranquil oasis filled with colorful flowers and fragrant herbs. The park also hosts a range of events throughout the year, from historical reenactments to seasonal festivals, adding to its appeal. There's a visitor center with a café, offering refreshments and a place to rest your feet. Overall, Oakwell Hall & Country Park provides a wonderful day out for all ages. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in history, enjoy the beauty of nature, and create lasting memories. My Rating: I would give Oakwell Hall & Country Park a solid 4.0 out of 5 stars. It's a truly enjoyable destination with something for everyone. The only reason it doesn't get a full 5 stars is because the café, while convenient, could offer a slightly wider selection of food.
Super Hall (Open Weekends) Gift Shop and cafes (check opening times) Free Carpark as is access to the country park. Country park has a nice figure of 8 walk. Dog friendly in the country park.
