Visited Dukes in Bradford and absolutely loved it! We ordered the smashed toastie with fries, and it was delicious perfectly cooked, packed with flavour, and the fries were crispy and fresh. The desserts looked amazing too definitely a must-try next time! The decor is beautiful, really stylish and modern, with a warm, welcoming vibe that makes it a lovely spot to relax and enjoy your food. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the whole experience felt great from start to finish. Highly recommend Dukes if you’re looking for somewhere in Bradford that combines great food, gorgeous decor, and a chilled atmosphere.
Firstly it's always good to mention the conflict of interests. So I will have to say that for agreeing to write a review I got 15% off my £35 order thanks to the young sister on the counter who always gives excellent service IMO. Other than this little incentive, I can safely say that the review is as accurate as I can be. My mother in law lives just up the road from here and I've been using this place for milkshakes (and occasionally cakes, when money allows) for at least the past 1 or 2 years. Though I try not to overdo it with sugar as our community is shockingly obese due to the 'no limits' mentality. So please, if you do constantly eat and eat and eat, do please consider some 18 hour water only fast regularly to offset. Right, now to the food. I usually get milkshakes and though the price is not cheap, I reckon this is a reflection of the quality of the ingredients they use. Milkshakes are always lovely and generally so too are the cakes (thanks Dukes). So even though I have plenty of other options closeby of milkshake places, I see no reason to not buy my shakes from Dukes. Service has always been great and polite. Another good thing I like is that when you go in it is not really loud with music which is really off putting in many places these days. The only downside other than the costs (but you get what you pay for) is that Dukes really need to work on reducing their plastic consumption. Please guys, these days there are plenty of options of compost able type cups so you really need to get into that. The problem with litter around some of our towns and cities are so bad that selling in paper type cups and plates, means that it's easier to clean and less harmful to the roads and wildlife. Keep it up and JK. Lastly, another great thing about Dukes is that everything is halal thankfully. Picture added of today's yield (for an extended family of about 9).
As someone who always tries to give every business a fair chance—and who is known for many 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor for genuinely good establishments—I believe in being honest so others can make informed choices. While I love supporting local businesses and sharing positive experiences, I also feel responsible to speak up when standards fall seriously short. First Impressions Dukes initially gives off a great impression from the outside with its appealing facade. However, once inside, it quickly became clear that the looks were only surface-deep. Cleanliness & Safety Concerns We visited as a family with young children and chose to sit upstairs. To our dismay, the tables had not been cleaned thoroughly. Even more concerning, the front of the booths had wooden panels missing, and the fallen panels were stacked to one side—with 2-inch long nails protruding dangerously. This is a significant safety hazard, especially for families with children. Food Quality After a long wait, our desserts finally arrived. Unfortunately, the ice cream looked and tasted off. It appeared to have defrosted and refrozen, as evidenced by clear signs of freezer burn (see my attached photos for details). This is simply unacceptable for any food business. Ambience & Surroundings The view from the upstairs windows is far from pleasant. Instead of a nice outlook, we saw abandoned cars surrounded by litter, dumped cars (which are also full of litter)—an environment that is likely attracting vermin. The amount of rubbish was excessive, not just a stray piece or two. Service & Atmosphere The staff seemed more focused on chatting and high-fiving each other than on serving customers. The atmosphere felt more like a youth club than a professional food establishment, which did nothing to improve our experience. Facilities To top it all off, the only restroom available was marked as "Gentleman" and, disturbingly, had a pair of used knickers thrown onto the ledge by the toilet. On our way out, we also noticed a doughnut with three bites taken out of it placed back in the glass display case with the other doughnuts that were for sale—an appalling lapse in hygiene and on view of paying customers. Based on our experience, we will not be returning to Dukes and strongly advise others to avoid this establishment. While I am always willing to give credit where it’s due, this visit left us thoroughly disappointed and concerned for the safety and wellbeing of other patrons. I hope this honest review helps others make an informed decision.
I had the jam & coconut sponge with hot custard at Dukes Donut & Coffee and it was absolutely delectable! Perfectly soft, rich in flavour, and served just the way I like it. The custard was warm and smooth, pairing beautifully with the sponge. A real treat — highly recommend!
