About Pennine Heritage
Description
Pennine Heritage was launched in 1979 as a registered charity to promote awareness of the special heritage and cultural value of the South Pennines. To this end they have produced a series of publications about the area, and a series of E-trails. These trails are downloadable audio/visual guides featuring interesting information on the history, geology and natural history of the area.
The guides are also available on the Pennine Heritage website at http://www.pennineheritage.org.uk/ . Pennine Heritage is based at the Birchcliffe Centre in Hebden Bridge, which is also home to the Pennine Horizons Digital Archive.
This is a project of Pennine Heritage, and is an amazing collection of over 45,000 images gathered over the years covering the Calder and her valleys. Over 22,000 images are now online at http://penninehorizons.org/ . There is a small exhibition area and shop in the centre which features a changing schedule of exhibitions, and there are regular open days. Please see the Pennine Heritage website for more details.
