There's a specific kind of hope that fuels a first-time visit to a new chippy, especially at tea time on a damp November evening. It’s a primal need for something hot, crisp, salty, and reassuring. You don't just want food; you want an event. Sadly, the event here was less a celebration and more a post-mortem. Let's start with the high point, because it was fleeting. The fish. It gets a star all to itself for turning up as a genuinely decent-sized portion. A hefty slab of white fish that, once excavated, was flaky and perfectly fine. The problem was getting to it. It was entombed in a batter that had long since forgotten what "crispy" meant, settling instead for "rigid." It wasn't the light, shattering, lacy gold you dream of; it was a hard, dense, slightly sullen helmet. But the fish was a roaring success compared to its companion, the battered sausage. This sausage wasn't just cooked. It had been curated. Left to ponder its own existence under a heat lamp for what must have been geological epochs. It was obvious this thing had been warming for a very, very long time, developing a thousand-yard stare. My wooden fork, usually a trusty chippy tool, was hopelessly outmatched. Cutting it was a grim, protracted battle. The batter had fossilised into a rock-solid, impenetrable tube. Beneath this sarcophagus, the sausage skin on one side had dehydrated past "chewy" and achieved the texture of sun-baked leather. It was a sausage that had seen too much. It was tough, it was dry, and it was a profound disappointment. The mushy peas were also there, a green, lukewarm bystander to the whole affair. You can't build a reputation on a decent-sized fish fillet alone. Not when the rest of the meal feels like it was cooked yesterday and abandoned. Two stars, then: one for the fish's potential, and one for the sheer structural integrity of the sausage's batter. An architectural marvel, if not an edible one.
Great fish and chips - just a shame the price of fish is high everywhere! Can't fault the meal at all, it's a regular of mine. A tip - if you save the chips and put them in the air fryer the next day - they are absolutely amazing! Try it!
Absolutely brilliant chippy. Always clean and the staff are fantastic and have a laugh with you while you're being served. Will happily give you as many scraps as you like which is great as my girlfriend loves them I am not so keen on fish eczema. The portions are great unlike some places that short portion you. Plenty of parking out front and to the rear. Keeps us coming back time after time. If your near I highly suggest a chippy tea tonight 😜
Great fish and chips and open later than most fish and chip shops too. This is the go to fish shop in bramley. The food here is good and the staff are alway's pleasent and friendly. It's obviously a popular place as there is usually a queue but it is worth the wait. It can be a little cramped in their though or you are out in the cold whilst waiting which I would say is like a typical fish and chip shop to be fair!
Fish was really small and skinny - so greasy it rolled out of the batter. I usually have to share a fish with the dog……no danger of that happening here! This is the second time I’ve been and the second time I’ve been disappointed!
