I walked into No. 9 Books and immediately thought I’d stumbled into some sort of covert Ministry of Literature , shelves everywhere, quietly watching me, as if they were about to leap down and demand that I recite Shakespeare backwards. The proprietor, however, was very friendly , well... suspiciously friendly, in fact. You know the type: someone who actually cares about books. Which is unnerving, because most modern shops care only about shifting coffee mugs with inspirational slogans on them. Here, however, there are books. Proper books. The sort of books that smell of wisdom, dust, and the faint whiff of existential despair. You know, literature. And all laid out in a way that makes you want to buy three more than you intended, thus ruining your holiday budget and forcing you to live off seaside chips for a week. It is, quite frankly, a marvellous shop ,warm, human, utterly charming. The only thing missing was a small man with a silly walk patrolling the aisles, preventing anyone from leaving without buying at least one novel they’d never heard of. They have entertainment outside though.. Would I recommend No. 9 Books? Absolutely. Unless you hate reading, in which case I suggest you visit the nearest garden gnome emporium instead
