We bought several net curtains, that fitted perfectly, due to excellent staff , we were useless. Then went upstairs and had the famous steak pie and chips which didn't disappoint. All credit to the man behind the counter serving who was so up beat and created a welcoming atmosphere 👍
This has to be one of the biggest Boyes stores. I love it because it has just about everything that you could possibly need (except food) with sections for clothing, homeware, carpets, toiletries, toys, stationery, gardening, sweets, petcare… the list is endless! Set over 3 floors the store occupies a prominent location in the town with entrances either side of the building. It has everything including a cafe and small museum on the top (3rd) floor; this is also where the toilets are located. Access to the top floor is via a staircase or lift. Staff are lovely and the store is well stocked with very reasonable prices and good choice.
The Bay View Cafe on the top floor of Boyes is a charming place to eat. The menu is small and the food is nice. Nothing about it is overly exciting. There is a lift to all floors. The toilets were handy but, on the day we visited, the gent's toilet was out of order. Also, given that it was extremely quiet when we called, there was a 20 minute wait for the food. But... The views are spectacular! UPDATED 2 Years later... I stand by what I said. If anything, the food was not as good. The jacket potato was small and the cheese wasn't melted into it! Great view, not great food.
The cafe on the top floor could be great if it weren't for the infuriating system of serving food. They have a cafeteria school dinner style service which works perfectly well but instead make you order everything from the cashier at the end. Absolutely ridiculous, time consuming and inefficient. I'm surprised they've managed to survive this long. Takes an age to get anything.
We finally went here for lunch and will certainly be going back. My dad had the steak pie and custard tart. The teapot was enormous and the views were fantastic. Can recommend.
