The Golden Hind Restaurant & Takeaway

My first time in the restaurant area thought I would support local businesses that work so hard in the community it was nice to see that this place runs a pensioners special also very affordable indeed so far so good with the restaurant space being very open nicely set out . I thought at first don’t let me down with all the good reviews I have been seeing so my expectations were high because of all the good feed back but had to try it myself has the proof is always in the pudding so the service was excellent made to feel relaxed so that’s a key factor then ordered fish n chips with mushy peas now my first bite of a chip was it was hot it was tasty without any salt or vinegar added yet I was keen to try a chip then move onto the fish which was crispy in certain areas but still plenty of fish to go at same again the fish was hot it tasted just fine so now I could start adding the mushy peas /salt / vinegar it was a very tasty meal which was then finished off by a cup of tea plus a desert which was the icing on the cake now when the bill came in was shocked surely a mistake for the whole meal which was a very affordable price also which was very enjoyable now I do hope to call again now the service was excellent. First time visit. Food lovely. Only slight issue is with the plain Chinese curry sauce has bits in. Generally it should be plain meaning no bits. Otherwise nice place. Will come again.

Staff are great as always but as one chippy said “Fish and chips isn’t a cheap meal anymore”. So we pay a premium I expect consistently high quality fish and chips. Was a regular but will be back in a few years when premium quality matches premium pricing. Can manager tell me what’s wrong with these photos? No, probably not. Staff aren’t to blame.

As a relative newcomer to the area, I tried the Golden Hind cafe a few months ago and it was spot-on. Consequently, I now go on a fairly regular basis and I haven't been disappointed once. Top class Fish & Chips, nice puddings/sweets and the tea is good. Furthermore, the young servers are delightful, and they can't do enough for the customer. Been today on a dull day, but the day was brighter after the meal! Would recommend to anybody.

Went back 14 May 25. Still no change to the "mushy peas" which were hard and cold. Had to have them heated up again. Fish was ok I suppose. Chips ok, tea spot on, but meal was spoiled by the Cold watery mushy peas - rectified microwave warm up. Haddock and batter - perfect⭐ Chips - ok Bread and butter - certainly not butter 1 slice Fruit crumble - tasteless. More like cardboard and some yellow mush that didn't taste of any fruit I know. Custard - watered down no flavour. Price - £12 approx (lunchtime discount 2 courses).
