To be honest, we only booked the Triton inn be ause we were dropping my son off at the South Cave Castle Hotel for a xmas do, but very pleased we did. I had booked late on a Friday so could only get the 8pm slot for 2, but when we got there about 45 minutes early, the staff quickly setup another table for 2 straight away. It was a really nice country pub with a delightful atmosphere. It was busy, as you would expect for a Friday night near xmas but we got served promptly by a very smiley waitress and we immediately felt like we were bring well looked after. 2 excellent if not original starters of a nicely creamy tomato and basil soup and prawn and crayfish cocktail. Both very nicely done. We both had the 8oz fillet steak and mine was cooked to perfection, sides were extra though. Again served promptly and sometimes by different people but all of them made us feel valued as customers with a happy smile. Deserts were also excellent. This is a dog friendly pub and there was a lovely well behaved black lab at the large table next to us. Just something to note if you're not as dog friendly as we are. Fantastic service by all the staff both behind the bar and the waitresses. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.
We visited as a group in November. The staff were lovely and helpful. Of those that ate meat within our group said their dish was pretty good. Myself being a vegetarian found the options very restricting as I don't like hot chilly on my plate as it dominates all other flavours in my opinion. My other option would have been a salad if I remember. I love to eat everything apart from meat. Our group had a wonderful evening, and many of us said we would definitely return.
I booked two tables for a Boxing Day lunch for a large group. We pre-ordered our food but were told that only one lamb dishes was available instead of the three we had ordered. This was disappointing, as the whole point of pre-ordering is to receive what you have selected. As it was a busy day, the service was slow. The tofu in the salad was very chewy and difficult to eat (this feedback was shared by three of our guests). The fish and chips were very good, but the chickpea curry was not good. The desserts (brownie and berry crumble) were served cold. I asked for the berry crumble to be taken away and warmed, but it seemed to have been microwaved, as it was brought back within a few minutes and was so hot that it was impossible to eat, and the ice cream served with it had melted. I had paid a £50 deposit, and we split the bill into five. We were told that the deposit had been equally adjusted across the five bills. However, only after reaching home did one member of the group add up the individual payments and realise that the deposit had not been refunded or adjusted in the bill. It was only after notifying the restaurant and later calling them that they agreed to issue a refund.
Had lunch here on Christmas Eve- we were seated in the conservatory bit that looks a lot like a wedding venue. (Beautiful Christmas tree). Really uncomfortable chairs and it wasn’t particularly warm either - had my coat round me at one point. Didn’t help that kids kept going out to the garden using the fire doors, even leaving them open at one point. The service was fine and the food was good - portions were generous, although my daughter’s lamb dish was very fatty. All in all, don’t think I would be in a big hurry to return here - there are other much more comfortable pub/diners in the area.
Absolutely superb! We arrived on a Sunday without a booking. We were taken to a table in no time at all. The service and food were both excellent. We'll definitely be returning.
