Ever get that feeling you want to swap your screen for some scenery? You know, ditch the endless scrolling and actually see something wild, and not just on a nature documentary. Well, there's a place in East Yorkshire that's just made for that. Burton Constable Hall has launched something brilliant just in time for World Wildlife Day, turning a stroll through its historic parkland into a proper nature-spotting adventure. It’s a fantastic new way to explore the magnificent grounds.

Get your explorer hat on

Imagine wandering through a massive, beautiful park that looks like it’s straight out of a period drama. That’s because it was designed by the famous Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, who was basically the rockstar of garden design back in the 18th century. Now, scattered across this amazing landscape are 18 brand-new Wildlife Watch Posts.

And the best bit? Each one has a pair of binoculars ready and waiting. It’s like having your own secret lookout points dotted all over the place. The new trail at Burton Constable Hall is designed to get everyone, from kids who love a good quest to grown-ups who just fancy a peaceful walk with a purpose, to stop and really look at the world around them. It's an invitation from the Burton Constable Foundation to connect with nature.

What could you spot?

So, you’ve found a post and you’re peering through the binoculars. What’s out there? The parkland is buzzing with life. You might catch a glimpse of a herd of deer moving gracefully through the trees, or maybe spot a fox trotting along on a mission. Look up, and the skies are busy with birds – from common garden birds to more impressive birds of prey circling high above. It’s a proper slice of the East Yorkshire countryside. The fun is in the not knowing. One minute it might be quiet, the next, a squirrel could be scampering up a nearby tree trunk. It teaches you to be patient, to watch and to listen.

A day out at a grand old hall

The wildlife trail is just one part of the adventure at Burton Constable. The historic hall itself is packed with stories and incredible things to see. It’s one of those places where every room has a tale to tell. You can spend the morning being a wildlife detective on the grounds, have a picnic by the lake, and then spend the afternoon exploring the grand rooms of the hall. It’s a full, proper day out that feels a million miles away from everyday life, perfect for making memories during the school holidays or on a sunny weekend.

Planning your grand day out

Getting the timing right is key to any good adventure, so here’s the lowdown on when you can visit. The team at Burton Constable Hall have made it pretty straightforward.

  • The Grounds: The beautiful parkland and the new trail are open every single day from 10am to 5pm. The only time this changes is during the British Winter Time, when it closes a bit earlier at 4pm. The grounds are closed for a short break between the 24th of December and the 31st of December.

  • The Hall: If you want to explore inside the magnificent hall, it's open daily from the 28th of March all the way through to the 1st of November, from 11am to 4pm (just make sure you get there before the last admission at 3pm). A key thing to remember is that the hall is usually closed on Mondays, but it does open its doors if it’s one of the Bank Holidays or during the school holidays.

  • Christmas Opening: Thinking of a festive visit? The Christmas opening for the hall runs from the 21st of November to the 20th of December. During this period, it's open from 11am to 4pm, with the last entry at 3pm. Imagine how magical the place must look, all dressed up for Christmas!

So, whether you're planning a trip during the long summer days or a cosy winter walk, there’s always a good time to visit Burton Constable Hall. Just pick your date, grab your coat, and get ready to see what you can discover.
