AVOID THIS COLLEGE!!!!! Started studying here in September 2024 doing childcare. The whole college and the lack of communication is absolutely appalling. Not only are the students bullies but the staff are too. The childcare staff (not naming names) constantly belittle you and degrade you by comparing you to other students. They themselves offer a lack of support to students who are quite clearly struggling. If you go to your tutors about bullying they will just tell you to “leave it” or “ignore it” even when you are getting threatened so nothing gets done no matter how many times you report it. The course is ridiculous I was coming in for 3 hour lessons just to do colouring and on the rare occasion there would be a proper lesson which was delivered poorly. Every term you have a 1-1 progress review with your tutor about what you are doing well and what not so. These reviews were done in front of the whole class where everyone can hear you. The tutor doing the progress review, would constantly bring you down and say “other students can do it so why can’t you” They make you feel stupid and downgrade you. You could have a genuine reason for something but the tutor will sit there and say that they can come into work so we should be able to as well. They are ALWAYS going on about attendance and even if it slips by a tiny bit they will start handing out disciplinarys. Childcare tutors consistently push on the fact how they decide whether we progress onto the next level or not. And the word “progression” can and WILL be used against you all the time. A certain staff member clearly favours certain students but then talk horribly to other students or will just ignore them full stop. Not just childcare but college as a whole does NOT cater for students with SEN needs at all. You get left by yourself or if you are in crisis they literally tell you to go somewhere else. In the tutors eyes, one student can do one thing so everyone else should be able to as well. Do not come to this college as you will come out of it in a worse mental state you entered in. The wellbeing mentors that are there to support students are overall useless as they do not want to help you and will make you feel like a burden for wanting to speak to them Avoid this college especially the childcare course!!!
Been here 2 years now. Can say I’ve had my laughs at this place. Was supposed to be redoing my GCSEs this morning and wow to say the least I ended up coming home. The college is useless at getting back to you or helping you with issues you’re having with students. They only really seem to care if there’s violence involved eg fighting or threats. But continually for months I’ve been getting issues of a girl and Everytime I react I get in trouble for it. Even when teachers have watched them approach me in the one who ends up in trouble. Wouldn’t send your young adults here as it’s just a cause of horrible mental health and just is full off bullies. AVOID AT ALL COST I filled some forms in to say I could go back in September amd now I’ve been COMPLETELY BINNED OFF. Had to go in today august 26th after my teacher told me to come in at 10 am I got told I couldn’t see him because he had other students and I had to wait till he was “free” leaving me waiting an hour and half and still didn’t see anyone PATHETIC COLLEGE
The Town Centre campus has facilities for a wide range of curriculum including arts, media and performance, engineering, plumbing, health, social and child care, English and maths, business and IT. The Catering and Hospitality teaching area runs a training restaurant, 'The Wharncliffe', while the Hair and Beauty area run salons for hair, nail and beauty treatments under the brand name 'Inspire'. The 'Studio Theatre puts on student performances. All these services are open to the public. Near the Town Centre Campus, the college has a separate 'Construction Centre' in three units on Rawmarsh Road, where joinery, brickwork, plastering and painting and decorating are taught.
Avoid this college. Bullying is a huge problem and when it gets reported to the college tutors, nothing gets done and all they say is to “ignore it” even when u start to get threatened by the ppl bullying you. Course teachers have clear favourites and target certain students and don’t help the students on the work. They do not care about the students one little bit until attendance starts dropping and they start handing out disciplinarys instead of looking into the issue. If you have mental health needs, nothing will get put in place to help with your learning. Some mentors are helpful but others not so much. As long as you are in ur lessons, thats all they care about. There is no communication from the tutors to the students so you have to figure stuff out yourself and if you message them about any concerns u get left on read. Students with SEN needs do not get the right support at all even if you have clear diagnosis's. So you are basically left to fend for yourself. The whole flex environment thats supposed to be in place to support SEND is so hard to get into as they will not accept you unless an EHCP is in place which are hard to get. The college course tutors are constantly going on at you for trying to talk to them about stuff that happens and they will just send you away if they can’t be bothered to deal with it. The only positive about this college is the pastoral and personal development team who are genuinely lovely people and do try to help but they can’t do to much seen as its up to your main tutors. I’ve only been at this college since September 2024 and it is absolutely horrible. The system in place fails multiple students even if they have SEND or not. It is a toxic environment and I will not be returning next year
