Had an evening meal here today (Sunday December 14th 2025). As we were a group of eleven, we decided to order our food before we went. This helped us & hopefully the kitchen staff. Food was good & portion sizes were more than enough. Prices were slightly cheaper than other similar places. A friendly welcome on our arrival & service was also friendly.
Excellent welcome, that's always a bonus!!...followed up with lovely service, price a quality. The food was lovely. Thanks to all for all you do. Loved it here.
I'm updating this review after visiting this pub a second time. I have kept the original review below, as it remains relevant. On our second visit, we ate from the main menu (it was a weekend, so the meal deal was not available). We had a vegetarian burger with chips, and sausage and mash for food. Both meals were good value, as before, very well cooked and prepared. I was a little disappointed that my chips were French fries, rather than chips, but they were edible. The burger was tasty and filling. The sausage and mash came with three large sausages, a nice dollop of mash, peas, and plenty of gravy (which puts to shame the Cross Keys in Hamsterley, if you find my review of that place). So, we were again happy with the food. However, we found the drinks disappointing, again. On this occasion we had a tea and an orange juice. The orange juice was about 150ml from a bottle. It was meagre for the money. And, while the tea only cost Β£1.40, it was served in a cup half-filled with water. So, it was only half a cup of tea. Hot water costs nothing. Fill the cup, or better still, put it in a pot with the tea bag and still make a profit of Β£1.20 per order. We also had a packet of crisps while we waited for the food (we know the food can take a while to arrive). It was a standard size packet of Tyrrell's. We were charged Β£1.55 for a packet of crisps. I understand that pubs need to make a profit, and I realise the profit is made from drinks, but seriously, this pub needs to review how much it charges for basics like drinks and crisps because what they offer does not match the price they are charging and switched-on customers, who try to support pubs, end up feeling a little ripped off. It is a shame, because we like this place, we love the food and the prices charged for the food menu are reasonable; but the drinks and snacks are pretty outrageous, in our view. We went here for lunch and were impressed with this country-style pub in a tranquil, quiet corner of Catterick. The Lunch Deal is available until 3pm and offers a reasonably sized meal for a decent cost, offering good value for money. The fish and chips meal was reasonably sized (the fish wasn't massive but it was adequate for the price), well cooked and pleasant. The Vegetable (vegan) chili was a surprise as it came with a good amount of tortilla chips, guacamole, rice and other additions for just over Β£8. Less old value were the drinks. Unfortunately, the bar keep had trouble with the idea of a pint of lime cordial and lemonade and we didn't really get anywhere near a pint (because we didn't have ice) and she initially didn't add the cordial. Overall, we found the place really friendly, good food and decent value for money. A rarity in today's Britain!
We had a lovely meal here today after our Sons Pass out. Everything was perfect, food, atmosphere and prices. It's a must place to visit in the beautiful Catterick Village highly recommended to all π
Visited twice over the weekend as staying in the village, great night on Friday with food, drinks and karaoke and then had a lovely Sunday Lunch yesterday. Will definitely return one day when back in Catterick
