I started at bishop burton as a student in September of 2020 studying a level 3 Animal Management course, the majority of the first year was studying from home on video calls due to Covid. The second year was back to on campus classes. I felt out of my depth from day one, my class had suddently combined with another doing the same course so there was over 30 students cramped into one small classroom, there was never any one on one care, you just felt like a number among thousands of students. my course was 3 days a week i just about managed one of those days if that, i had reported my struggle with my course tutor, she said she would set up for me to chat to someone about the issues i was having to find a way forward, i came into the college on this day even though i really did not want to, this person i was supposed to meet with never turned up. Nothing ever came of this, i was given the option of attending 1 day for one week 2 days the next and back to the full 3 the week after to ''break me back in''. My main tutor hardly ever checked up on me nor did the others i had classes with who were aware i was struggling. There was never any care or comfort. A terrible chice going to that college, i left after 3 month into the second year. Some time after this i attended East riding college in beverley, the best experience! Felt so looked after and at home!, the tutors and the course couldnt have been better for me. Sorry this has been long, the bottom line is i dont recommmend attending this college.
Bishop Burton College (Attended 2017/18) I studied at Bishop Burton College for two years, finishing around June 2018. There were some good aspects: some of the staff were friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the hands-on learning. However, I was really disappointed by the way my progression was handled. I was told that if I completed all my work by the end of June, they would consider letting me move up to Level 3. I worked hard to meet that goal. Unfortunately, when the time came, my teacher Lindsey pulled me into her office and told me I wouldn’t be able to do Level 3—specifically because I’m dyslexic. This was really upsetting and unfair. Instead of being supported or given a fair chance, I felt judged based on my learning difficulty rather than my abilities. What makes it worse is that I later went to a different college (TEC) and completed Level 3 with no problems at all. My experience at Bishop Burton left me feeling let down and discouraged at the time. I hope the college has become more supportive and inclusive for students with learning differences since then. My advice for anyone considering Bishop Burton is to make sure you get clear answers about progression and support for learning needs. — Former Student (2016/2017/18)

Don't rely on your course lasting through the first month! I began studying an access to higher education course in September of this year, and two weeks in they decided it would be acceptable to cancel the course due to there not being enough students. They provided us with no viable option and were extremely unhelpful with finding an alternative course elsewhere. their ''viable'' option was an animal care course, and when I told them that I could not get into university to study what I want to do with this course, they had nothing else to say funnily enough! The college manager was the person who made the decision to cancel the course, but when I rang her to ask what on earth was going on she denied having any knowledge of the course being cancelled - how professional! Myself and two other students (one of whom moved 6 hours away from home to study at Bishop Burton) were thrown out with no other options. I asked: ''what would you have done if students dropped out 3 months in and this resulted in there not being enough students?'' and the response I got was ''we would have made a commitment to the students by then''. Is a student moving across the country not enough for you to make a commitment? The year that I have now wasted due to having no alternative course not enough for you to commit to your students? This college very clearly has no regard for its students and only cares about what funding they can get and trying to save money by cutting courses that they have already started. As an autistic person who has hugely struggled with my mental health in the past, it had taken me years to get to a point where I was able to go back into education, and this event has set me back massively. The college showed no remorse or sympathy for how they treated us and the huge impact this course being cancelled has had because, again, they very clearly could not care less about their students if they tried.
My experience with Bishop Burton college has been wonderful in particular one of my tutors Will Duffett has really put a lot of effort into my learning which has really helped me with my education and clearly is very passionate about teaching .
