Yesterday trains north of Preston all cancelled. Standing in Hebden Bridge station heading to Glasgow . Panic all around . Trains app of no value. Many around me also panicking . Thén to our delight we found the station office was open and a real person was there to help. How wonderful she was . Within minutes we had a journey plan, be it across to York , up to Edinburgh and across to Glasgow . All printed out for us… panic gone . Our thanks to this lovely lady, very professional, friendly and helpful .. without her goodness knows where we would landed up!! Thank you HB station
Good station that actually has staff but no mobile signal so difficult to use phones there to check train times etc.
Clean and well maintained railway station with a good car park and easy access to the town center. The views walking up to it are spectacular and what I appreciate is it having a heated room with a piano and water in it.
I have to explain, I haven't travelled here by train but I came to have a look at what I presume is a Victorian station. Two tracks, two platforms, a lift, ticket office, toilets .... pretty much what you would expect. A few minutes walk from the town centre it has a huge car park for patrons plus there is a bus terminus right outside the front door. I have written more about Hebden Bridge on another review but it's old world charm is reflected in the station. It's also very pretty sitting looking down the line. Just needs a steam train to complete the picture. As I said we travelled up by car ( parking is a nightmare so maybe the train is a good idea) so I can't comment on the train service itself. From where we are near Wigan, it's either an hour just over from Wigan via Preston, assuming you make the best connection or, it's 35 mins from Manchester Victoria ..... but you need to get to Victoria first so it will work out about the same either way. Hope the pics help. I'm giving it 4 stars because of how pretty it is as well as being quite sheltered under the Victorian canopy and also for the direct access to the buses and the abundant parking. The toilets aren't great .... or clean!
Great little station with easy connections to Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and more. Still has a staffed ticket office which is great when you are a visitor and have questions. Free parking but the car park can get full. I stopped in the overflow lot and unfortunately that is not free and dispite displaying my blue badge I was given a ticket which was not fun but not the fault of the station.
