Welcome to Yorkshire
Inspiration • November 10th, 2025
|Get ready for something seriously special next summer, because two of the biggest names from the 90s alternative rock scene are teaming up. That’s right, the incredible Garbage and the powerhouse that is Skunk Anansie are joining forces for a massive joint headline tour. They’re set to play some of the country’s most beautiful outdoor stages, and the good news is, they're making two massive stops in Yorkshire. This is the kind of music event that gets everyone talking, from those who remember the songs first time around to a new generation discovering what real rock music sounds like.

Two legendary bands, one epic tour
So, what’s the plan? These two musical giants are hitting the road together, and they've carved out two very special dates for fans in Yorkshire. It's a proper double-header, a chance to see two iconic bands for the price of one. Imagine the atmosphere at these huge outdoor gigs. The first show is at TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall in Halifax on Tuesday, 16th June. Just a few days later, they’ll be taking the stage at TK Maxx presents Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Saturday, 20th June. These aren't just any gigs; they’re set to be major highlights in a summer already packed with amazing live music. For anyone wanting to grab tickets, they go on general sale at 10 am on Friday, 14th November. Better set a reminder for that one.
Who's closing where?
Now, here’s a cool little twist. Because this is a joint headline tour, the bands are sharing the top spot. It’s not a case of one opening for the other. Instead, they’re taking turns to close out the night. So, for the show in Halifax at The Piece Hall, the American rock legends Garbage will be the final act, sending everyone home buzzing. But when the tour rolls into Scarborough, it’ll be Skunk Anansie’s turn to bring the night to an explosive end at the Open Air Theatre. It’s a brilliant way to do it, making each of the shows a completely unique experience. It’s a testament to how respected both bands are within the music scene.
A bit about Garbage
For anyone who needs a quick catch-up, Garbage are a massive name in alternative rock. Formed back in 1993, the band is fronted by the iconic Scottish singer Shirley Manson, alongside American musicians Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig (who, fun fact, produced Nirvana's legendary album 'Nevermind'). They burst onto the scene with a completely fresh sound, a fusion of rock, pop, and electronic music that was dark, moody, but also incredibly catchy. Their first album gave the world massive hits like 'Stupid Girl' and 'Only Happy When It Rains'. They’ve been a pioneering force in music ever since, and Shirley Manson remains one of the most commanding frontwomen in the business. Seeing them live is something special. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram to see what they're up to.
And what about Skunk Anansie?
Then there's Skunk Anansie. Formed in London in 1994, this band is pure power. Led by the incredible Skin, whose voice and stage presence are simply off the charts, they mix hard rock, punk, and funk into something totally their own. Their music isn't just about noise, though. The band has always tackled big social and political topics with raw, unapologetic energy in hits like 'Weak' and 'Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)'. They helped shape the sound of the 90s alternative rock scene in Britain and across Europe. After a break, the bands got back together in 2009 and haven't stopped since, continuing to release powerful music and proving why they are one of the most electrifying live bands around. Check out their Twitter feed for the latest news.
What the organisers are saying
The people putting these huge shows together are just as excited as the fans. Julian Murray, who works with the promoters Cuffe and Taylor, knows this is a big deal for the area.
“What a huge night this will be. Both Skunk Anansie and Garbage are musical powerhouses so to have them team up for a double headlining show will certainly make for a memorable evening on the Yorkshire coast. Next year is going to be incredible in Scarborough and we can’t wait to make even more announcements very soon. It’s going to be a busy summer.”
Over at The Piece Hall, the CEO Nicky Chance-Thompson MBE DL is also buzzing about this unique pairing of artists.
“We work really hard to bring inclusive line ups to The Piece Hall and this double header is going to be one THE gigs of the summer! Seeing two of the biggest female fronted rock bands in the world right now on the same bill in this stunning venue will be nothing short of epic. Both acts have immense back catalogues, and deliver powerful fusions of indie rock and pop, but are also completely unique as Shirley and Skin bring their own distinct energy and talent in bucketloads. I can’t wait.”
The amazing Yorkshire venues
It's not just about the bands; it's about where they're playing. These aren't your typical venues. The Piece Hall in Halifax is a stunning Grade I listed building, the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world. Its massive open-air courtyard is an epic place to see live music. Then there's the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, a legendary venue on the coast that has hosted some of the biggest names in music. These incredible outdoor stages are perfect for summer festivals and concerts, creating an atmosphere you just don't get indoors. Both venues are gearing up for a huge season of entertainment.
Who's behind the scenes?
Putting on a tour of this scale takes a lot of work. The concert series is presented by TK Maxx, a brand that is part of the wider TJX Europe family, which also includes the popular Homesense stores. They're working with renowned promoters Cuffe and Taylor, who are part of Live Nation and are experts at staging massive shows and festivals across the UK. They’re the team responsible for bringing some of the world's biggest artists to stadiums and arenas, so it’s clear this tour is in very safe hands.
