Great new bar and will become my new local, exactly what this estate & local area needs. Much nicer than local competition. Glad to see very busy on opening weekend. Well worth a visit if near by. Ale well kept, good selection of craft and real ale and lots of liquors to choose from. Great to see support for local artists too along with a gentle nod to local history.
This is my local now and I feel very spoiled for choice with an awesome selection of rotating drink options. I believe this is the same team that own The Oxbow in Woodhouse, and that is also a fantastic Micro bar, so I had high hopes for The Canery and I am not disappointed at all. The decor is sleek and modern, the staff are knowledgeable and super friendly, and the value for money is evident as pints start from as little as £3.90 - For context, £3.90 won't even buy you a full pint of mass brewed dirty dishwater from the longest standing nearest establishment on the estate, so this has been long overdue to have here. There's loads of local breweries available here, Triple Point, Abbeydale, etc, and I've found that even from day to day that the line up can rotate quite a bit, so it's a Pandora's box of flavours/options which is great - The Rodenbach Fruitage Cherry beer was phenomenal. It feels like a place where a community can truly start to grow in Waverley and it's great to have here. It's dog/child friendly too (outside of Friday-Sat after 6pm) so welcome to all. No food is served here, however they've frequently collaborated with Street Food vendors who've set up shop outside such as Farinas Artisan Pizza, Twisted Pig (burgers), Smith's Fish and Chips, Bedda Pasta & Madame Crepe to name a few, and they're okay with food being brought inside. I noticed quite a few people bringing Wingers in from opposite the bar too, so that's another plus. A couple of small caveats; If you smoke/vape, then there is no covered area to do so, the outdoor area is open to the elements. Also, people seem to have forgotten that you queue along a bar, and not single file, so the entrance/exit does at times get blocked by poor etiquette, but that's a general people post COVID issue, not necessarily an issue with the bar itself. Overall, I am well impressed by the place and absolutely made up that it's a litteral 2 minute walk from my house. Let's hope the community keeps rallying behind Olive Lane and its new establishments. Cheers 🍻
Absolutely brilliant place! I’ve been a couple of times now and every visit has been fantastic. The beers are always top quality with plenty of choice, and the atmosphere is lively yet welcoming, which makes it the perfect spot to relax with friends or enjoy a night out. The staff are great too! they’re friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. A special mention to Isobelle, who truly made our night truly the best. She was incredibly warm, approachable, and made us feel like valued guests. Service like that really sets this place apart. Thank you for being so amazing and genuinely so lovley. Hope Isobelle can get some recognition for being the most amazing staff member.
Really happily surprised, genuinely the best pornstar martini I’ve ever had, so I had 3 . Great place, beautifully decorated and lovely staff
Tried to pay cash and was told card only! So pulled out Amex and was told we don’t take that, and then took it and charged me 20p more and didn’t tell me! Horrible atmosphereless, expensive place.
