Reply to the comment: I had to clarify some topics: - If I had known that my tax situation wasn’t ideal to proceed with your services, I obviously wouldn’t have continued. My partner was also using your services, but I don’t see how her tax situation is connected to mine — we’re not married, nor are we considered unmarried partners. - She didn’t save money on her taxes because of me — our situations were completely unrelated. You also lost her business as a result of this error. However, you’re right that I had to pay more, but that was because I was misinformed. I was told there was a law allowing a 50% income reduction in the first year of self-employment, but it was never explained that this only applied if all income for that tax year came exclusively from self-employment. - I exclusively sent en email to the person that provided the wrong information as soon as I received the notice of the substantial amount to pay, but received 0 feedback from it. The only feedback I received was from another accountant who did not offer a solution, including the CEO in an email thread who said “All good for me” when made aware of the company’s mistake and that no action was being taken to fix it. - The individual is no longer with the company — however, I believe that’s not relevant. I sent an email requesting a way to be compensated for the damage, but there was no offer to rectify the situation. - - - I followed the advice I was given, but that turned out to be costly — I ended up paying a lot of money in IRS due to incorrect information. I clearly explained my situation during an in-person meeting, where I mentioned that I had been employed until August and was about to start working as a freelancer. I feel misled for having followed bad advice and being left alone to deal with the consequences.

I had such a great experience with RHJ Accountants! I had a few issues with my tax situation due to living and working in Portugal and UK for a few months. I enter into discussions with RHJA in 2020 fully believing that as qualified accountants they would be honest and sincere. How wrong I was. Jeremiah and his team hike up HUGE prices to file tax returns and charge 400+ euro's for a service that costs 50 euro with competitions. They positions themselves as specialists in double taxation and made me feel that there was no other option than to use them because the system was so complex. I blindly believed this and that is my own learning. In fact I have since been informed by other more honest tax advisors that I did not even need to file a tax return in Portugal because of my financial situation. RHJA would have known this also but continued to take 3 years worth fees from me equating to around 1,500 euro. I recommend you look elsewhere and don't get sucked into their narrative of complexity and worrying you as a tax payer around the time tax returns are due. There are great honest accountants such as Tytle - who I now use for my worldwide income.
