•Yorkshire coffee lovers have a great opportunity to improve their morning brews with the launch of a unique initiative called the Coffee Amnesty. From Monday, 8th June to Sunday, 21st June 2026, 200 Degrees, a popular coffee roaster, invites locals to swap their disappointing coffee for something much better. Whether it’s stale instant granules or an uninspiring bag of beans that has been gathering dust in the cupboard, everyone is encouraged to bring in their worst coffee and exchange it for a fresh 250g bag of 200 Degrees specialty coffee or a box of coffee pods, completely free of charge.
The Coffee Amnesty Details
This nationwide Coffee Amnesty is a response to some surprising research conducted by 200 Degrees. The study revealed that a staggering 8 in 10 Brits regularly drink coffee they don’t enjoy, wasting an average of £85 a year on tasteless brews. This means that many people are spending their hard-earned money on coffee that doesn’t meet their expectations, leading to disappointment with every sip.
The campaign aims to tackle this issue by encouraging coffee drinkers to be more vocal about their preferences. Alex Slater, Senior Head Barista and Drinks Development Lead at 200 Degrees, highlighted the importance of quality coffee: “We care a lot about getting coffee right, from sourcing beans from across the world and roasting them in-house, ensuring quality in every cup we serve in-shop and every bag of beans we sell for home brewing.”
Why It Matters
For many people, coffee is not just a drink; it’s a daily ritual that fuels the morning and provides comfort throughout the day. However, the findings from the research show that many individuals are too polite to express their dissatisfaction with bad coffee. In fact, nearly 39% of respondents admitted to smiling and calling a coffee “lovely” even when they disliked it. Other statistics revealed that:
38% of people have left a bad cup of coffee to go cold, hoping no one would notice.
27% have discreetly tipped away a cup of coffee when no one was looking.
This polite behaviour often leads to people settling for subpar coffee instead of seeking something better, which is where the Coffee Amnesty comes in. It allows coffee lovers to reclaim their enjoyment and experience quality brews without any cost.
How to Participate
Residents of Yorkshire can take part in the Coffee Amnesty by visiting any of the following 200 Degrees locations:
200 Degrees York, 68 Low Petergate, York, YO1 7HT
200 Degrees, York Designer Outlet, St Nicholas Avenue, Fulford, York, YO19 4RE
200 Degrees Leeds, 31 Bond Street, Leeds, LS1 5BQ
200 Degrees Barnsley, The Glassworks, S70 1GW
200 Degrees Sheffield, 25 Division Street, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield, S1 4GE
Each store will have a limited supply of specialty coffee and pods, so it’s advisable to swap as early as possible during the campaign period. The amnesty not only offers a chance to enjoy better coffee but also raises awareness about the importance of choosing quality over quantity.
Better Brews for Everyone
The Coffee Amnesty is a fun and engaging way for Yorkshire residents to improve their coffee experience. The initiative aligns with the growing trend of specialty coffee, where consumers are increasingly looking for quality and unique flavours. The signature blend offered during the amnesty is the Brazilian Love Affair, known for its bold flavours and notes of chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to elevate their home brewing.
As the campaign unfolds, it’s likely that many will discover just how much better their coffee experience can be. With the chance to swap out bad brews for something delightful, Yorkshire coffee drinkers are encouraged to participate and enjoy the benefits of quality coffee.
So, for anyone tired of their current coffee situation, the Coffee Amnesty provides a perfect opportunity to refresh those morning routines with something much tastier. Don’t miss out on this chance to say goodbye to bad coffee and hello to better brews!
