Great woodland walks Beware though For dogs - some nasty barbed wire hidden in various places, our dog was injured badly - old fencing. Some unsavoury / aggressive characters lurk in there, a fair few younger people riding motorbikes idiotically making some people feel unsafe and damage to trees etc. And ,normally for Dewsbury - litter everywhere.

High above the town it feels like you have escaped to the countryside. Trees breath life into the air and rejuvenate the soul.

Caulms Wood Park is the ideal spot for a stroll through woodland and the old quarry. Most of the paths are user-friendly, but need a bit of TLC. Friends of Caulms Wood is a group that's trying to do just that. Plenty of dog-walkers use the space - entry points from Cliffe Street car park, Caulms Wood Road and from the Kirklees Way which runs across the top of the hillside from The Fox and Hounds pub in Hanging Heaton across to the golf course. Full of wildlife - squirrels, birds, bats, foxes and wild rabbits, it's a great spot to get away from the roads and be with nature.

Interestingly laid out wood with windy paths, challenging elevation and good escarpments. Great views from the top also.

Great place for dog walking. Relatively dry underfoot, even in this wet winter 20/21. It's not really a park - just an old quarry.
