Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery was opened in 1964 as a purpose-built Museum to display a wide variety of local and nationally important objects and artefacts. Our highlights include a Cheswold car actually made in Doncaster in 1914 by E.W. Jackson and Son, and the Edward medals received by three local miners for extreme bravery in their attempts to rescue their fellow workers who were trapped underground following the Bentley pit disaster of 1931. Doncaster's racing heritage is celebrated with our nine Gold Cups dating back to 1779, while the Roman influence on the town is represented by the unique Danum Shield. We also offer a large and varied temporary exhibition programme throughout the year, as well as special activities for all ages.

On the first floor of Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery are the purpose built art galleries. Here you can find nationally important works of art from our own collections alongside a varied programme of temporary exhibitions. There is also an important selection of Yorkshire Pottery on permanent display.
