Last week, there were cows with young calves so didn't want to risk it. Parking close by. Nice area to explore.
Surprising to read the Old reviews.. Yes , it's not a castle (strictly speaking) but part of a manorial complex. The structure itself is a rare find with a tower of significant importance. Was nice to spot it off the Pickering road and easy to park up and walk across the field to have a look. In a way, it's nice these old structures are left to be stumbled on... Standing , reflecting in the sunshine and admiring the views... Pleasant place to take a stroll with the dog.
Simple remains of a medieval fort/castle, a few good descriptions of the history on plaques. Nice walk which leads to a nice walk by the river. Bear in mind there's a few trees down across the path which is a boarded track but overgrown ..no good for pushchairs. Turned back after 1 mile as we didn't know where we were. But nice on a nice sunny day.
Stumbled accross this little beauty while camping at The Ranch in Irton just up the road. Beautiful little walk with a bit of history.
Very picturesque castle. Not much left of it, but a fantastic view over surrounding countryside. Its a fairly easy walk up the hill, I have mobility issues and I managed OK.
