Calverley Surgery

Great experience from start to finish. Options given over the phone of when appointments were available for my smear test and got one that fit my schedule. Going in this morning, the surgery was very clean and checking in was easy. I was seen on time and had my smear with Mandy for the second time. She's a brilliant nurse - very kind, caring and reassuring. It was over and done before I knew it. Nothing negative to say at all.

Wanted to see a doctor for antibiotics. Under the new system I was told to attend Shakespeare House in Leeds 9. 2 buses there and wait for an hour. Felt poorly going and returning. What is happening. I have lived in Rodley for 35 years. This is the new system an absolute disgrace

In general the service at Calverley surgery is excellent. However I am so disappointed by a recent incident. My husband attended a phlebotomy appointment, the locum phlebotomist had not read his Patient Care Record (PCR), was unaware of his recent heart attack (3weeks prior), also unaware of an allergic reaction to one of his BP meds'. A huge budget is designated to creating the IT platform for both Primary and Secondary care in the trust, so it ought to be utilised (I worked alongside developers creating the primary care system for 17yrs). Very disappointed that on this ocassion the record was not acessed. One would imagine that time is set aside to familiarise oneself with a patients record prior to each appointment. A heart attack, heart surgery initial medication is handled by the hospital, a continuation of this care and follow up appointments are all part of the recovery. Whatever your role, take responsibility.

Rang at 8am and was 4th in the queue, it only took a few minutes and the phone was answered. To my delight I was in the surgery by 9.50am.The doctor was brilliant asking me lots of questions and giving me advise as well as a persription. By night time I was already starting to feel better, so all in all a great experience.

Always polite, always try and do their best with limited resources. Appointments are difficult to arrange so you need to try and ring in the afternoon and not expect an immediate appointment.
