It was great, the chimney did full the whole room with smoke when we made a fire in it the first time. But I'm guessing it's just because it was too cold. Apart from that it is a beautiful place to stay and our daughter loved the lift.

This historic Jacobean manor house is currently being restored by The Landmark Trust and will eventually be reopened for holiday lets. For now they are running "hard hat tours" to allow a peak behind the scenes of this unique project as well as giving courses on the work being undertaken such as stone-carving, fabric restoration and what to do with Tudor wallpaper!

It's good to see the Hall restored, but. I think some of the finishes were inappropriate; the pale oak seemed a mismatch. The floors ought to be stone in the main hallway. The staircase and wall divider looked too modern. The kitchen cabinets were too light. Suggestion to improve the experience: Guides could be in costume. Play some 'early music' during visits. The lounge on the upper floor is beautiful. I think it would be advantageous to have a local historian on site for such 'open days'. Someone with local knowledge who could talk about Calverley history...knowledge beyond the hall.
