I know we've only given this pub a one star rating as we feel it's representative when compared to some other pub / restaurants in the area. But the pub does have some positives that make it very popular. We visited on the recommendation of someone on a Facebook group and we were hoping it would be even better than The Green Inn (Rawcliffe) or Lorenzo's (Barmby). On arrival it's clear the exterior of the building is shabby. As you enter the hygiene rating is the usual 5 stars, so definitely a positive there. We chose to go on a Sunday for lunch at mid day and we were charged £12.95 each for the carvery. There were no other menu options and it explains why the menu board outside is empty. We were given a two seater table which was fine for us, but very close to other tables. Once seated there was about eight inches at the back of our chairs to people sat behind us. But all fine there, just goes to show how popular the pub is that they cram in as many tables as possible. We both chose the beef and pork as our two meat choices as they looked the best. The chef struggled to cut a slice of beef so we both got bits and bobs but the pork was much more moist and sliced easily. The potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings were obviously pre made and reheated from frozen, but there was plenty of them and a large selection of veg and gravy options. The food was ok and appropriately priced, and as a carvery there was plenty of it. It's worth piling your plate up as there are no desert options. The cutlery we had, none if the knives or forks matched, but no issue there, it's just quirky. During our meal one of the waitresses forced her way through the gap behind my wife, to access other tables, banging her chair and the elderly lady behind. This happened three more times. No 'excuse me' or apology each time. It's just a quirky place and it seems normal. The decor wasn't our taste, but it will certainly appeal to others with its art and lighting choices. Oh almost forgot, don't make the same mistake I did and ask to see the wine list as it confuses them. I then asked what wine do you have, with the answer being, "both types". A third question confused them again and not wanting to appear awkward we had a coke and a pint. As we sat there in 1970 with our budget meal and quirky cutlery, we became increasingly aware that the queue at the bar for the carvery was growing by the minute. And this was still around 12.15pm. The place is extremely popular and mainly with those in their 80's and if you fancy going I'd advise booking. Not sure how you'd do that though as the pub doesn't have a website.
Had Breakfast with Santa. 3 adults 4 children. Prompt service (thank you Amy) and great food. Really enjoyed my veggie breakfast! Kids loved seeing Santa and the gifts were a magical touch. Will absolutely be visiting again. Thank you to all the team.
We went in for a Sunday carvery. It was fantastic. Good helpings of meats and the veg was really nice. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome.
My partner and I went for a carvery today, for the first time . We were made very welcome .It's a warm welcoming atmosphere in there as soon as you enter. The food was by far one of the best carveries we both had .We will definitely return and recommend, to family and friends .
Went to this pub yesterday with my brother for a Sunday lunch. This is a lovely friendly venue and a typically proper village pub atmosphere with a nice happy crowd. The roast dinner carvery was one of the very best I've ever had with a choice of many roasts and even steak pie. I had Beef and Turkey and both were cooked beautifully and tender. An array of choice in vegetables and different gravy's made this meal and venue an outstanding choice. Can't wait to visit again. Thank you..
