Very cool architecture, combining an old church with a modern building. When I was there they had a display of some of Anne Poster's diaries. We did that while the kids were in the children's section having a ball.
I've only just started going back to the Library and really wasn't sure about it when I've seen it from the outside but WOW!! It's the most incredible structure inside π The most helpful staff you could wish for, photocopies and printing at a reasonable cost, what more could a bookworm want? I daren't go back to start on the local history section because if I do they'll be having to throw me out every night! But one day when I'm less busy then I'll go and sit like a respectable pensioner and do what others do. Keep the peace βοΈ and read a good π π π, I might even get old and grey but that's definitely for another day !! Well done for giving the area this wonderful building, just a pity it's next door to the Piece Hall because hordes of people thinking they're visiting a city is driving many locals π π‘ π€ (mad) If the council wanted this it then they should come in on coaches and be sent home after it's over because the rubbish left, noise, drink and drugs is appalling. No wonder they've got such tight security because they're going to need it in Halifax TOWN centre.
Popped in on my way home to sign up to the library and the staff were lovely - so helpful and welcoming! Thank you!
I went to go to the children's section and although it has a lot of potential, it is definitely not the best library in the area. Not that many books really and no toys which some have.
Updated review March 2025: Earlier this year i reserved a book which wasn't available. The staff member went over and above to show me lots of alternatives and brought them to me at the door so I could collect them as I had my dog with me so couldn't go in. It was a really lovely touch. The staff are always really helpful. I wish the library stayed open later on an evening so I could visit. Original review May 2023: I visited today to collect my library card, I've not visited the library in its new location until today. Not easy to find the entrance when heading to it from within The Piece Hall, but if coming from the road it's just at the top of the steps just outside the walls of The Piece Hall. The man at the information desk was polite, patient and very helpful. I'm looking forward to my next visit when I plan to spend a bit more time in the library.
