Location is great, few minutes walk you're at Bettys tea rooms, bars and restuarants. We had a twin room, view wasnt great but only stopping for one night so was not an issue. Bathroom was on the small side and TV kept losing sound. Breakfast was nice, plenty of choice. Would recommend pre booking car park space
I recently stayed at The Crown Hotel in Harrogate, and overall it was a genuinely pleasant experience with a few areas that could be improved to make future stays even better. From the moment I arrived, the hotel made a strong first impression. The building itself has a classic, historic charm that immediately sets the tone for a relaxing stay. The lobby and communal areas are beautifully maintained, with that elegant, traditional décor that Harrogate does so well. It feels warm, inviting, and full of character rather than overly modern or clinical. Staff & Service One of the standout positives was the staff. Every member of the team I encountered was friendly, polite, and genuinely welcoming. They struck that perfect balance between professionalism and approachability, and nothing ever felt too much trouble. Whether it was check‑in, general queries, or simply passing through reception, the staff consistently created a pleasant atmosphere. It’s clear they take pride in the guest experience. Room & Facilities My room was clean, comfortable, and well-presented. The décor matched the hotel’s classic style, and the space felt cosy without being cramped. The bathroom was spotless, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Small touches—like the complimentary tea and coffee—were appreciated and added to the overall comfort. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, just a short walk from the town centre, the Turkish Baths, and the beautiful Valley Gardens. It’s ideal for anyone wanting to explore Harrogate on foot. Sleep Quality The only real downside to my stay was the sleep quality, which unfortunately wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. The main issue was the pillows. They were noticeably thin and quite firm, which made it difficult to get comfortable throughout the night. Even stacking them didn’t quite solve the problem, and as a result I didn’t sleep particularly well. It’s a shame, because everything else about the room was lovely, but a good night’s sleep is such an important part of any hotel stay. Upgrading the pillows or offering a pillow menu would make a significant difference and elevate the overall experience. Overall Impression Despite the issue with the pillows, The Crown Hotel remains a charming, welcoming place to stay. The building is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff are genuinely excellent. With a small improvement to the bedding, it would easily be a top-tier stay. I would still consider returning, especially for the location and the warm service, but I’d definitely hope for softer, more supportive pillows next time.
Beautiful hotel. Our room was plain, but had all we needed including a comfortable bed. Our evening meal was lovely and the young waiting staff did a great job. They were all efficient and also pleasant and friendly. The reception staff were also helpful and friendly. Breakfast had everything we could possibly have wanted. Not a single negative. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Overall a good stay the hotel itself is stunning the lobby is beautiful however the rooms and corridors are tired, the front desk was helpful, bar staff are a little hit and miss to where you have to catch one of them to grab a drink. My biggest gripe with my room is my window doesnt open and the heating is flat out so woke up with a sore throat and a headache. However on that note I would be complaining if it was freezing cold so...
This is a large centrally located hotel. With high ceilings and sash windows it has the historic feel of a Georgian/Victorian spa town luxury hotel. It's well heated and clean with modern bathroom fittings and crisp quality sheet and comfortable beds. Customer service is excellent and the public rooms relaxing and comfortable. The restaurant is good and offers excellent value compared with local cafes and restaurants. The number 6 bus runs close to the hotel from the station meaning this hotel is accessible without a car. There are several large rooms for meetings and a large ballroom with a superb sprung floor, likely one of the best remaining in the north.
