I usually never leave reviews or complain, but the service here has me feel that I simply have to. Building and rooms were very cute, and the location is pretty good, but the service for the pub was so incredibly slow and the food was average at best… it took 30 minutes just to get dessert and about 20 minutes just to get drinks, and the place wasn’t even busy. Genuinely wouldn’t be that bad if the food was good, but it wasn’t… btw, the roast beef is three thin slices beef and then loads of sides. Also, to bring your bags to the rooms, you either need to lug them through the pub or go around the entire building… Anyways, if you have small bags and no shame, I guess it’s fine. Unfortunately, I have self respect. Anyways, all said with peace and love, have a great day!

We booked Christmas dinner at The Fox House for 12:30pm (roughly £90 a head) for four adults (2 adults and 2 teenagers). Drinks came to almost £100 and the total bill included a 10% service charge. Although we arrived at 12:20 for pre-drinks and were seated straight away, no drinks were brought to the table until after the mains had been served. We were given cold starters and by 12:40 our mains arrived - still with no drinks. This completely ruined the experience and made the meal feel rushed and poorly organised. Desserts were also served cold and when I asked for a hot one I was told it had simply been heated in the microwave, which is unacceptable given the price. We left at 1:45pm, meaning the entire Christmas meal lasted just over an hour — hardly the relaxed festive experience we had paid for. I waited until after Christmas to email the manager, Paige, who offered a £75 voucher for fox house or a sister restaurant. Unfortunately we had been pre warned about declining service and quality at The Fox House in recent months and this experience confirmed those concerns. I asked instead for a 50% refund as I don’t wish to return, but this was declined. A voucher for somewhere we no longer trust defeats the gesture. Very disappointing overall, especially for Christmas Day and at this price point

I stopped off for a pint and ended up having an evening meal. Lovely venue, nice staff, and I was there for perhaps just over an hour so cannot really comment with great authority. I had a great time and will definitely visit again! Here's the critical bit though... The fish and chips was nice, but at £20 I personally look out for something special and it didn't quite deliver. The fish was lovely, well cooked, tasty batter and was clearly fresh. Great. The chips however were cold, and while they were decent enough and also cooked well, unless it's a side salad having a temperature differential on a plate is not good! Personally, I felt a little short changed in terms of chips volume too. There could have been more and generally I feel that there should be more chips by volume than fish, but that's just me. Worst of all, and I know this might sound fussy but the salt was damp. They'd put fine salt in a coarse grain salt grinder and I had to dismantle the thing to get any condiment out of it. Like I said, I appreciate it's a bit fussy, but for probably the most expensive fish and chips I've had in several years one feels that it should have been suitably special! I hope the Fox House doesn't take offence to this, but rating fish and chips is kinda my thing these days and I hope next time I pop in that they nail it.

Lovely country pub with some nice but basic rooms, real good deals in the winter for a night or two though. Idyllic location in the middle of nowhere, looks incredible when blanketed by snow. Love the fireplace in the bar. Good food. obviously country pub prices. However if you sign up to their newsletter you can get some impressive discounts.

Came as a big group for some food after a hike. Great staff and amazing food. We did the 3 for 12 bar snacks which were a generous size and good value! Dan made our experience particular enjoyable, nothing was too much and he was very friendly. We will definitely be back next time we have a walk in the Peak District!
