Carl Wark, an ancient hillfort on Hathersage Moor in the Peak District, is reached by a short but sometimes rocky walk, making it moderately easy with just a little scrambling in parts. The flat top is surrounded by dramatic gritstone outcrops, and from there you can see sweeping views across Burbage Valley, Higger Tor, and the surrounding moorland. It was an amazing feeling to walk up onto this historic place, stand among the stones, and look out over the wild landscape all around.
Magnificent view. Some part of the route have become muddy after precipitation, recently. But, walking in the rain will give you a fresh feeling and more fun. So, just give it to the washing machine.
Carl Wark is near to Higger Tor,set in a stunning location. I set off from upper Burbage car park in the direction of Higger Tor then on to Carl Wark, there are a number of paths you can take I did a circular walk about 10k. Great views easy walking.
Not as impressive a landscape as Mother Cap or Higher Tor in the same area, but used in a circular route it is still worth the trek. Bit difficult coming off with Bogs down one side but see cows in the field made up for it with my little one!
Loved it. Not to steep not to long, great views ...
