I didn't know specifically about the toad, but even on a very cloudy, quite wet and dreary day, this place was vibrant with autumn leaves, running water, sweeping vistas, satisfying sounds, and a generally very pretty walk. Another good thing is you can park up right here for just a little look, or to walk out towards the peaks. Or, as we did, from the nearby car park (watch out for closing times, though). So you could make it as big or small a day as you liked.

The rock does look like a toad's face from the side. I have great photos with me and my son sitting on the top. It is quite close to the busy main road so be careful crossing. Lovely walk round there across to Carl Wark iron age fortress. The National Trust place nearby has a good cafe

The Toad's Mouth is a very under-appreciated stone. Many people pass it every day, not knowing it is there. However, I believe *because* of this, there's something quite special about it. After some research, it's easy to find out that 1. We don't know much about it 2. What we do know is that it's *really* old. It's on the Mesolithic portal; so it could qualify as a cup and ring mark. (Think of those as perhaps netholithic graffiti) I myself took the bus past this stone that hangs over the road for 6 years without realising it was there, since it hides in plain sight. Now? It's my favourite stone in the Peak District. (Free to walk up to, easiest to park by suprise view car park.)

Ooof fantastic, Great place to have a picnic! Don't forget the Swiss roll! The brough rest area is a great stop to stretch your legs, and appreciate the 2 wheelie bins, but there's only one now. Not to forget the Ladybower Reservoir, great place to check the level! Fantastic!

It's a big rock ..... at the side of the road. It does look a bit like a toads head. No close parking or pull in to take a picture from. Apart from that... It's great
