I do not understand why on earth this is ONLY "4.1" rating!!! It's 5* !!! Staff are wonderful, welcoming, so helpful. The food & coffee is FANTASTIC! Best coffee we've had all week & we have an average of 3 a day out! Nicest cake too. Homemade, absolutely delicious 👌🏻 It really sadens us, such a marvellous place is so quiet. This is our 4th visit from Saturday - Friday!!! Try it, you will not be disappointed!!!

We stumbled across this place on our walking trip to the Dales - as keen cyclists too we were in heaven! After popping in for a coffee one afternoon, we came back the next morning for breakfast. Food was great, coffee is amazing, and I had I think the best brownie I've ever had. Would absolutely recommend, feels like a bit of a 'hidden gem' as it was never very busy. Service was great, special shout out to the young lad who was doing a brilliant job.

Arrogantly flying under the Hawes radar for vegans. Prior to visiting Hawes we’d looked online hoping to find somewhere offering nice vegan options - we failed miserably. We visited the Dales Countryside museum and accidentally discovered the attached “Stage 1 Cycles” and associated “Firebox” cafe and were delighted to find several vegan offerings on their menu. We had seen Firebox vaguely listed on TripAdvisor but its website link lead to a non existent Facebook page and we couldn’t find an online menu anywhere else. On speaking with the wholly uninviting and dismissive “since birth” vegan member of Firebox staff we were coldly informed that their menu is definitely online and that she knew this to be true as she’d written it. Struggling to find it I later asked where the online menu was to be found in order that I could share it but she couldn’t find it online either and dismissively claimed it had been taken down from the Stage 1 Cycles / Firebox website due to “changing over to their winter menu”. Perhaps she’d misremembered. Our feedback to her suggesting that the cafe clearly has a sub-optimal online presence fell on entirely deaf ears. Despite offering vegan options for which we were so grateful, its online existence is sadly lacking, and from our experience with this particular member of staff, seriously off-putting. That said, while we sat enjoying our drinks in the pleasantly quirky cafe, the female member of staff serving the food was very friendly and sociable. Despite its best efforts to be otherwise, it is by far the best option for vegans in Hawes and hopefully in time things will improve both in-house and elsewhere. For now, best to search online for “Stage 1 Cycles” for further cafe info, and good luck!

Such a great place to have a cup of tea and a piece of cake - actually, it was a large slice of tiffin, more than enough for one. There is a museum next door. Well worth coming a short walk away from Hawes to find

Brilliant lunch at Stage 1 cafe, in Hawes. Superb service from the young lady at the counter. Delicious homemade brownie. Very good sausage & bacon sandwich. Really good coffee. Reasonable prices. Dog friendly. Quirky venue.
