If you just look at the prices then you'll probably walk on by as it is a little above the normal. However, if you do you'll have missed a real treat. The atmosphere is lively but warm and welcoming. The food is something else and not your usual pub grub, not that there's anything wrong with pub grub. But if you fancy something a bit more then this is the place as the food is chef prepared, not just cooked, and is both well presented and importantly great tasting. One of the best meals we've had for some time but well now have to wait for pension payday before we can eat again . No, seriously it did cost a bit more than usual pub food but was, in our opinion, well worth the extra. Thank you to the waitresses, waiters, kitchen staff including the chefs but especially to the owners. Great evening. (No photos taken as to engrossed with the food and having a good time).

Went in august with my mates when we were up in Hawes, lovely little town, but I had a feeling this place was a bit of a tourist trap when I saw the prices, and my suspicions where affirmed when I saw the variation on the menu. There’s no way you can serve all that stuff and not have most of it frozen. But alas my friends wanted to go as it was supposed to be an expensive treat. They ordered starters (I didn’t because I had a bad feeling and would rather spend that £12 on a couple pints), and when their lamb shoulder starter arrived, it basically looked like cat food on a soggy warburtons crumpet, and tasted like it too. Another mate got crab tortellini, of which he got 2 pieces. Then the mains, I got the mince and potato pie with “thrice cooked chips”, £20. Thrice cooked maybe if they deep fried them three times out of the freezer, because these were clearly frozen pub chips. I’ve worked in a crap pub before so I know. And then the dry slice of meat pie burned around the edges on a bed of boiled cabbage and grubby boiled baby carrots with the stem. Mid to bad food with awful value for what you’re paying for. I’d go somewhere else in town for a pub dinner if I go again.

We ate here several times and it was excellent. Personal favourite is the fish platter. Side salad great, with slices of fruit and a tasty dressing. Service was always friendly and efficient. Worth booking ahead as they tend to be full.

Excellent place to have really good evening meal, although a tad expensive! However, the higher cost is well justified! Make sure you book a table. as they’re very busy and in high demand by visitors as well as the locals! I shall visit again!
