About The Hawthorn

Description

In the words of food reviewer Amanda Wragg “I’m relieved to walk into the haven of The Hawthorn and the welcome is warm”.

This warm and appealing gastropub has been renovated throughout to showcase an array of local antiques, including a stunning collection of exquisite clocks built by John Barraclough, who not only lived in this very house, but was also Clockmaker to the Brontës themselves. Many items have strong connections with the Brontës and the Barracloughs, and all have a story to tell.

Downstairs has a cosy Georgian tavern atmosphere, welcoming dogs and muddy boots for a well-earned plate of hearty food and pint of real ale (and a dog biscuit or two for four-legged friends.) With its roaring log fire, Georgian wood paneling and lovingly selected historic photos and prints adorning the walls, there is plenty to admire. Proving to be popular with walkers, tourists, families and friends alike, with the occasional celebrity!

Upstairs exudes elegance with its high ceilings, original oak beams, and Georgian windows which look out onto the iconic cobbled main street.  If you are looking for a finer dining feel this is the place for you.

The adjoining Private Dining Room and bar are the perfect venue for private parties and get-togethers. Gather everyone around one table and enjoy the dedicated waiter service. There is no charge for the hire simply a minimum spend easily covered by 10 dining guests.

At the heart of The Hawthorn is a passion for food. Using only the freshest seasonal British produce, all dishes are freshly prepared in house by Head Chef Tim Kitchen, who prides himself on perfection. Many of his dishes have a sharing element for family and friends, and the menu changes with the seasons.

The Handmade Josper grill imported from Barcelona is the main feature of the kitchen. The unique cooking method ensures all the natural moisture and flavours of the food are captured within.

A passion for the conservation of traditional breed livestock is reflected in the choice of suppliers. The support to small farms across the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, all of whom exclusively rear Rare and Native Breed livestock in the traditional manner, ensures their long-term survival and the preservation of the countryside.

Fish is freshly delivered from Hartlepool, and vegetables are from one of the best suppliers in the country. “Kitchen has hit the ground running” (The Yorkshire Post) and if you’ve tried his sticky toffee pudding you may be inclined to agree.

Comprehensive vegan, gluten-free and children’s menus are available to ensure there is something for everyone.

It’s taken me 8 months to wait to have Sunday lunch at The Hawthorne, and my was it worth it! I’m not a massive Sunday lunch fan, but this was incredible, one of the tastiest Lunch’s I’ve ever had! The venue was so warm and welcoming, amazing staff, I’m only sorry the next available slot is now in a year, but I guess it makes it all the more special. I will however be returning soon for an evening meal. Oh and they accept dogs too! And he had his own bed!

Small menu very meat based, executed very well. My steak had a large signue running through but the meat around was delicious! Tip - chip portions are huge so you can share and alternate sides. Added to waiting list for Sunday lunch, I’m sure it will be just as amazing as the reviews

The best meal I have had in a long time. Fabulous service, great atmosphere and fantastic food. The service was super friendly and attentive and the food was brilliant. We had the salmon scotch egg, the chicken and the short rib which were all great but the short rib was absolutely superb. Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Haworth, the room is decorated so nicely and had a real warmth to it. A great evening altogether.

Staff were super-helpful and friendly especially Rachel who found me a table after a no-show, and was super knowledgeable about the food and the wine list. Scallop starter - wow! The chipotle butter, herbs and caviar. Best scallops I’ve had for many years, if not ever. The main course on their charcoal grill was great. Maybe not as stratospheric as the starter, but still fabulous. Definitely recommended. Definitely will come back. Definitely having their scallops again! Thank you

This is a venue you need to book a table for on weekends when events are on in Haworth. They found us a table for a drink in the past when we go for the annual Steampunk weekend. The service by all the staff is absolutely 1st class. I work in catering and seeing the way they deal with the publics questions and problems be assured you will be looked after by great people. A great comfortable atmosphere of a very old building with loads of character. Last but not least the food and drinks are amazing, tastes that you may not have tried before but you will want to go back and taste again. Book try it you will love it.
