Lovely place to visit. The paid playgroup is great but only available on Saturdays. You can hire paddling boats, you can feed the ducks and it has free playgrounds for all ages too. I've seen reviews about swimming in the water - there are actually signs not to swim in the water + and it's a pond with stagnant water and birds living there which makes it breading ground for bacteria so please don't swim in the water let alone allow young children do it. I don't even allow my son to play in the beach sand due the birds fouling there.

I really like to rest here but unfortunately the water is full of microbes and dirty. Its a nice place but no water access should be permitted. Last year my nephew 4 year's old and my kid 2 year's old got ill after visiting this lake and this year we went there but different day's and same thing happened, they got I'll with fewer and diarrhea and it's not from daily food. I hope they get well soon.

Used to be a fantastic place to visit but now they have started charging £3 for parking. Extortionate. It's a flat charge even if you are only there for 30mins. Any other similar places I visit in the Wakefield area are free for first 2 hours. I tried to ring Hemsworth council to make enquiries. A week later had had no reply so had to chase it up. I spoke with a female called Harriet who was very unfriendly, rude and aggressive in her manner, not to mention confrontational. I asked her to pass on my comments to the council. She needs to take lessons in good customer service. Won't be visiting there again any time soon.

I live nearby but if I drove down there was an attendant taking money, which to start with was a pound then it went to three pounds. I refused to pay as I live in Hemsworth and pay council tax, the attendant told me to go to the council offices and get some sort of sticker for five pounds then I would get in free. I never did this, just parked elsewhere but recently drove down and looks like it's free now.
